Hello everybody! Just thought I'd pop in before this chapter starts to give you a heads up that there will be quite a bit of time skips, this is because in this chapter I am setting up the alternate story which will begin in the next chapter so apologies if this chapter ends up being a bit jumpy. *Doctor Franxx POV*

"So how are the children doing?" I asked Hachi and Nana.

"They are slowly learning to live without the need for us." Nana told me.

"Excellent, and how is the boy doing?"

"He is doing much better now." Hachi said in his static tone.

"Good, so it seems that even without those pills he can keep his composure, that makes this even better."

"Doctor?" I heard Nana call out to me.

"Yes?"

"Is there a reason for us to not make contact with the children?"

"That is classified and on a need to know basis."

"So what are our current orders Doctor?" Hachi asked.

"Proceed with your current orders."

"As you wish Doctor."

The screen winked off as I disconnected the call.

"Now all that has to be done is to watch them grow and see if my gamble pays off."

*Your POV*

It had now been one month since I had been sent here to fulfil my mission. But now that Papa had thrown me away I only had one reason to keep living, and that was for Squad 13, my family.

"What you up to Y/N?"

I turned my head to see over my shoulder and saw Zero Two standing by the middle of the roof.

"Just looking over everything, it's peaceful up here."

Zero Two walked up beside me and looked out into the forest with me.

"Can I ask you something?" She asked me.

"Of course."

She took a breath as if to steady her thoughts.

"Is there anything in your past that you wish you understood more?"

"There are many things."

"Well if you could pick one thing what would it be?"

I thought for a few moments what I could pick, there were so many things I would like to understand.

"Why I was never thrown away even if I never could pilot a FranXX, to this day it still baffles me."

"I'm sure it's because of something special you have."

"Maybe, yet what could make me so special?"

"What about you?" I asked her.

"Well when Darling and I met we wandered around for a days until a man found us, he didn't speak or even grunt in pain when I attacked him. Yet he was the reason Darling and I were separated."

"So what is he to you?"

"What do you mean?"

"Well obviously to him, you were just a target, but it seems like that man is the reason why you are here right now. So he obviously is something to you."
