BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
I fumbled around for my alarm clock and finally managed to turn it off. Then I sat up and grabbed my glasses so everything wasn't super-blurry. I checked the time and groaned. Why did we have to get up at 6:00 in the morning? Gag.
It was the day Alexis and I were going to Green Acre to check into our rooms and get settled a couple days early. We were pretty sure we were going to room together and would have most of the same classes, so we weren't nervous about going.
I got out to bed and hopped into the shower. After I bound my chest with an Ace Bandage and donned some guy clothes, I called Lex, who said she was on her way over. I went downstairs to wait for her.
When she got to my house we did a quick double check to make sure nothing was missing. Then Kate came downstairs and we all ate. Eventually Matt got to the house and we loaded our stuff into the back of his Jeep. We all piled in and hit the road. It was a seven hour drive to the school and after the third hour Lex and I had managed to annoy Matt enough that he was threatening to toss us out. When we countered that doing so would make the entire trip meaningless, he just stuck his tongue out and ignored us. After the fourth hour we had exhausted our collection of extremely annoying songs and decided to nap. There was nothing better to do.
"Guys, wake up. We're here," I looked up groggily to see Matt talking to us.
"Alright! Let's do this thing!" Alexis shouted, pumping her fist. I sighed. She was always so hyper right after she woke up from a nap.
We walked to the main building and, let me tell you, it was gorgeous. It was made mainly out of brick, with large glass doors and windows that sparkled in the sunlight. I probably would have just stood there staring but Lex pushed me forward. We walked in to the office to get our keys and schedules.
"Names?" the receptionist asked, cracking her gum.
"Uh...Alex Young and Cole White," Alexis said nervously.
"Here you guys go. Next!" she called, and the next kid stepped forward.
I got my key and some papers from "Alex".
"So what room are you in?" I asked her.
"315."
"I've got 316..." I said with a frown.
"Oh well, this just makes the bet even more fun! Having actual guys as roomies will make it harder," Matt exclaimed. Then he turned serious. "But really guys, be careful."
"Alright, alright. Let's grab our stuff and get it to the rooms," Alex said.
"I'll help Alex. You help Cole," Kate said to Matt. It felt really weird to hear my guy name. We grabbed our stuff from the car before crossing the courtyard to the dorms and climbing up to the third floor, where our rooms were located.
Thankfully, our rooms turned out to be right across the hall from each other. Sadly, they were on the third floor in a building with no elevators. Lugging our crap up those stairs was torture!
Matt and I walked into my room and saw two beds with navy blue comforters, a cluster of beanbags in front of a big flatscreen TV, a minifridge with a microwave on top of it, two identical desks, and a few doors which I assumed led to the bathroom and closets- or something like that. Lex and I had been extremely relieved to find out that, since Green Acre was such a super-fancy school, every room had a connected bathroom. I dragged my heavy bags over to one of the doors and opened it. I was right; it was a closet. I dragged the bags I had left by the door to it. Matt followed with the rest of my junk and we started the looooong process of unpacking the various crap a girl-turned-boy needs to survive at an all-boys school. After about three minutes, Alex and Kate crashed through the door, laughing hysterically.
