I watched in shock as our milkshakes left the tray Will was carrying and soared through the air to land all over me. Within seconds I was completely soaked in a gross combination of ice cream and Coke. That wasn't my main concern though; I was more worried about Will, who had landed on the floor among the shards of the broken glasses. He was stuck in the push up position, so Matt and I each grabbed an arm and pulled him to his feet. As we helped him up I managed to get milkshake all over his sleeve.
"Sorry, man. I got your shirt dirty," I looked down at Will's sleeve to assess the damage. As I did, I realized with horror that my shirt was starting to stick to my chest, exposing the outline of the bandage binding it. I grabbed my shirt and held it away from my body, trying to act casual about it, as if I just didn't want the grossness touching me.
"It's okay. I wrecked yours first," he replied with a small smile, then turned to Kate and Matt and began apologizing. "I am so sorry this happened."
Kate smiled at him sympathetically as Matt consoled him "It's not a big deal. Accidents happen." He turned to me next. "I've got an extra shirt in my car. Alex, why don't you go to the bathroom and start getting cleaned up. I'll bring it to you."
I smiled at him in relief. "Thanks, Matt. Um, Will, where's the bathroom?"
"Right over there," he pointed off to a little alcove on our left. I started to head towards it and Chloe followed me. She had gotten covered in a good bit of the shakes too, since she was sitting right next to me. Lucky for her it had landed mostly in her hair, rather than on her shirt.
We got to the bathroom and were happy to see that it was unisex. Well that saved us the dilemma of which one to use. Clo and I walked in and as soon as the door was locked I ripped my shirt off.
"GAAAH! Warn a person before you strip!" Chloe threw her hands in front of her face, acting like she was going to be scarred for life.
I rolled my eyes and smirked at her melodramatic response. Then I started laughing at her as she stuck her head under the faucet and tried to scrub the shake out of her hair. Chloe shot me a glare as a knock sounded on the door. It was Matt with the clean shirt and a bag for me to put my wet one in. I grabbed the stuff and tossed the new shirt on over my mostly dry bandages. Luckily the drinks hadn't seeped into them too much. As I shoved my old shirt into the bag Chloe switched to the hand dryer, in an attempt to dry her now soaking hair. This brought more laughter from me, and more scowls from her. Once she was done we went back to our table and found all the glass gone and the lovebirds happily sucking down new drinks. Right after we got settled, Will came out to take our orders.
"The manager would like to give you your drinks on the house as an apology for what happened," he readied his order pad. "So, what can I get for you?"
"We'll have four Double 'N Cheese burgers and a large plate of chili cheese fries," Kate dictated.
"Ooh that sounds good. So what are you guys getting?" Matt was practically drooling at the mention of chili cheese fries. The boy had an unhealthy obsession.
Kate smacked him on the shoulder. "Silly, that's for all of us, not just you!"
"I'm just kidding, honey," Matt held his hands up in self-defense.
"I know," Kate cooed at him. Chloe and I were shooting them daggers, trying to get them to behave while Will just stood there awkwardly, not sure if we were done ordering. The two "grownups" leaned towards each other, like they were about to-
"Oh come on you guys!" I threw a balled up napkin at them. "You're supposed to be responsible adults. Leave the acting like teenage idiots to the teenage idiots!"
"Well said," Chloe commented.
The two broke apart and Matt stuck his tongue out at us, obviously displeased with our interruption. Will, however, had a wide grin on his incredibly handsome face. Clearly he thought my outburst was amusing.
Our still grinning waiter asked "Will that be all?"
"Um, yes, that's it," There was a faint blush evident on Kate's cheeks.
"All right then. Your food will be ready soon." Will walked off towards the kitchen to place the order.
