"I'm sorry"
July 15th, 1992

"Answer the phone Selah!" I groaned, hearing my sister's obnoxious voice interrupt my peace and quiet. Unique is the type of girl to sit right next to the phone but ask me to grab it when I'm far away from it.
I slid my pig themed house shoes on, dragging my feet across the wooden floors. The closer I got to the phone, my headache's pain increased.
"Diane isn't here, I'm her daughter," I narrowed my eyes, my irritation being evident in my tone of voice. People knew my mother had work, so why call when they know she's not here?
"Oh I'm sorry, I just called because I'm sending my son over to bring back the milk I had borrowed"
"Ok," I abruptly put the phone back on it's holder, seeing Unique peek up from the couch.
"Who was that?" Unique raised her eyebrows, she was lazy and nosy? That was a bad combination.
"I don't know, maybe you should've answered it"
On que, a knock from the door interrupted the tension. I glanced at Unique who glanced right back at me.
"You already up, just answer it, damn"
"Keep talkin' to me like you crazy Unique, I'll end up slapping you like I'm a pimp," I threatened her, she'd usually end up scared but she's been feeling oddly bold this summer.
"I'd like to see y—"
I glanced at the door, a beat interrupting our argument. I slowly walked to the door, looking out the peephole. A finger covered the hole causing me to huff. Why did people make my life difficult?
"Who is it?"
"Milk man, milk man yeah that's me!"
What the fuck?
I opened the door, staring at Ason who had the small milk carton in his hand. I look ugly, with my bonnet and unicorn robe on. I must look so retarted right now.
And yet, all he did was smile, he didn't laugh or snicker. He didn't throw shade at my appearance, he simply accepted it.
"So you answerin' doors with a attitude? You fiesty ma ," I just stood in front of him, unable to respond. It's like he takes my ability to speak when I'm around him.
It bothered me.
"Give me the milk"
"Well damn, don't be stingy," he laughed, at my perplexed state.
"I can be whatever I want to be"
"Like what, an asshole?" I froze, hearing him say that, it hit differently.
I simply slammed the door in his face.
We didn't need that damn milk in the first place.

The quietness of my room bothered me.
What doesn't bother me?
With Unique being at her friends house and mom being at her second job, I should be content without their presence. Right?
You shouldn't have slammed the door on him in his face. Now he's never gonna wanna talk to you.
You'll do good with or without him Selah.
He bought you pasta! Be thankful he ain't let yo' bitch ass starve.
Boss the fuck up and forget him damn. Sometimes you annoy yourself Selah.
"Selah!" I quickly sat up on my bed seeing Ason stick his head into my window.
"What the fuck Ason!" I stepped back as he quickly stepped inside, closing my window and shutting the blinds. This man is out of his mind.
And so am I.
"The police out there Selah," he shushed me, quietly stepping towards me, "you trust me right?"
Moments like these confused me more than ever, I muttered out a, "yes". Seeing him in a panicked state, the situation is nerve racking, people tend to ask for favors when they're running from the police.
"Let me stay the night"
"Hell no," I folded my arms, there was no way in the world that I was about to get in trouble because he broke into my room.
You're the dumb ass who left the window unlocked in the first place.
"Please Selah"
"Fine," I unconsciously nodded, immediately regretting what I just said. Why did I say that?
"Thanks," his raspy voice sent chills down my spine, Ason is something else. His soft lips pressed against my forehead, I closed my eyes and bit my lip. Hiding the smile that would creep onto my face.
I jumped at the sound of the gun shots and police sirens, immediately ducking under my covers while Ason watched my actions. I started shaking, feeling the uneasy feeling swarm my body.
The bed sank as Ason put his weight on the bed, I felt his arms reach over me, pulling me into a hug.
A hug that made me feel safe momentarily.

Ason laid beside her, Selah's hair covering her face as they're both snuggled together. Ason isn't the mushy, emotional type of guy but he had a urge to hold her. To calm her down.
Ason had his arms wrapped around her torso, hearing her inaudibly speak.
"Ason?" Selah glanced at the man whose soft eyes was looking at her, "Please don't go"
