"I'm so sorry for bumping into you, I hope you can forgive me but I really have to go." I said to her before rushing off. Once reunited with Reya again we continued to run until we got to the doors of the building, this time checking our surroundings. Once we got to the doors we were clueless as to how we were supposed to get in.
"Here, let me help you." Said the girl, who I had just bumped into. "I'm Anastasia Miller by the way but you can call me Ana. My mum works here so I can help you get to where you need to be if you would like," I looked at Reya with disbelief. "I have the card to let you in," She said trying to convince us.
Reya looked at me as if to tell me to say something. "We would love that, thank you," Reya said, taking the initiative.
I checked my phone to see we had only two minutes to spare, "Do you know where we need to go to have a meeting with John Perry?"
"Yes, of course," she said, "But take it from me, it's probably best if you call him Mr Perry when you're in there. Men like him are very high up in the world of music, you don't want to forget that." I couldn't help but roll my eyes, who did she think she was? It's not like I knew nothing about being within the presence of someone important, I had watched a lot of documentaries about how to act around the queen, not that that was the same. Plus this was going to be the second time I had met him and I only slipped up by calling him John Perry a couple of times and he wasn't even present.
"I think I'll do just fine in there," I said to her passive aggressively. Out of the corner of my eye I could see Reya mouthing sorry about her to Anastasia so I looked at her and said, "Are we going then?" Probably a little too aggressively.
"Let's go then," Reya responded with, signalling to both Anastasia and I to leave. Anastasia leant forwards and placed the card from her pocket to the sensory plate on the glass door. Then she entered into the office and conversed with the receptionist about my meeting with Mr Perry as we followed behind her.
"What is your problem?" Reya whispered to me, "Ana doesn't have to help us but she is, why are you so bitter towards her?" Before I could respond, Anastasia spun round and directed us where to go. I took a glance at Reya and shook my head, letting her know I didn't want to talk about it.
"So your meeting with Mr Perry is in room 24, I can take you there if you want."
"It's okay, I'm sure I can find it," I said, responding to Anastasia but before I could have a look Reya nudged me hinting at the idea I should let her take me. "Actually, that would be really nice of you," I said to her in a false manner whilst glancing back at Reya to check whether she approved.
Once we got to the room I handed my bag to Reya to look after and put my phone into my pocket in case I needed to make notes. "I'll stay here with you if you want, I don't have to go to my mum for another half an hour," Anastasia said to Reya.
"That would be really nice of you, thank you." Reya responded, before pointing at the door aggressively telling me to go.
After I knocked the door, I heard a faint "come in" but before entering I turned round to Reya to check for her approval but she was too busy in the middle of a conversation with Anastasia.
"Hello, it's so great to see you again..." Mr Perry said, pausing towards the end of his sentence, waiting for me to state my name.
"Morgan Wilson," I said in response.
"So, you are interested in recording some music with me?"
"More than anything!" I said to him trying to show my enthusiasm.
"Well, I can tell that you are definitely motivated seeing as you have come all the way from Brighton but I have to be honest with you, the journey will not be easy. It will take a while to get to where you want to be as an artist and you have to know where that is." I nodded my head slowly, waiting for more information. "We also need to discuss your availability because if we sign you we will need you to be able to move forward with your music career without hesitation." The words sign you daunted on me, I didn't realise he was planning to sign me. I knew I should have been happy about getting the chance to have a record deal but it all felt too quick and I didn't know what to think about. I only thought I'd get the chance to record some music of my own, which was my dream but I didn't want to have to move away from Brighton for good.
Once the meeting was over, I walked out of the room with a list of notes on my phone. I knew I had to call my mum now whether she wanted to speak to me or not.
"How did it go?" Reya asked, turning from her conversation with Anastasia to me, waiting for the details.
"I'll tell you in the car." I said to her feeling too uncomfortable to express my true emotions in front of Anastasia.
"It was so nice to speak to you Reya, and hopefully I'll see you on Saturday," Anastasia said before leaving to find her mum.
"What was that all about?" I asked impatiently.
"Well seeing as you are going to be busy recording your music I thought I'd make some friends, so, I'm going to Anastasia's step-brother's party on Saturday. If you're free I'm sure she'd love it if you came."
"Can we just go to the car please?" I asked desperately.
"Okay but you have to tell me what's up with you today." She responded, with a grimace.
When we got to the Uber, we had called, I had no idea what to tell her about the deal because I didn't want to sound ungrateful but I knew I had to tell her the truth because I couldn't hide anything from my best friend. I'm Morgan Wilson and this is my life.
