I couldn't believe it, I had made the wrong impression for so many people that mattered. You'd have thought I would have acted a lot more mature when Landon told me but I couldn't bare how he made me feel. I didn't know how I was supposed to act now, especially after the way I had treated both Anastasia and Landon.
As I realised I was getting too deep into my thoughts, my phone rang, "hello?" I said hoping that something could distract me.
"Hey, Em where are you? Something has arrived for you." Reya told me, with slight confusion.
"I'm in the Uber, on my way home. What is it?" I asked, trying to remain quiet so the Uber driver wouldn't speak to me.
"Um, let me just open it," she said pausing. I felt awkward hovering on the phone in the back of the Uber and I was hoping she'd open it quickly, "Oh wow." She said as she opened the package.
"What is it?" I asked in anticipation.
"Give me a second, there's a letter." She took another moment whilst she opened the letter that was inside the box, "okay, here goes." She said pausing once again. "Dear Morgan, you have been invited to the annual summer masquerade, hosted by Perry records. In the box, you will see two tickets, one for you and another for your plus one." Reya reaches deeper into the box, to check what else was in there. "Oh my gosh, wait, there's more Em. There are two masks with loads of feathers." She paused for the final time, "hold on, do you remember giving them the address of where we are staying?"
"I think it was one of the things I had to put on a form." I said, completely distracted. "Anyways, can you put it in the bin please."
"What?" She asked, in complete shock. "Why on earth would you want that?"
"I'll explain later, just please put it in the bin, or ask someone in reception to put it aside ready for the bin men." I said, hoping she wouldn't ask anymore questions. "I'll see you later, bye Rey," and with that, I hung up the phone.
"We're here," the Uber driver said, turning around to look at me.
"Cheers," I replied quietly, hoping I wouldn't have to converse with the driver much.
I made my way up to our room, hoping that Reya wouldn't bring up the masquerade, when I entered the door to our room I was expecting to be bombarded with questions but it was quite the opposite.
I stood half way between the door, with suspicion, "What?" I asked looking at Reya, who had a large smile plastered on her face.
"Well," she said pausing, whilst making her grin even bigger. "I met one of Anastasia's friends today and they both tried to convince me to go to another one of their parties." I gave her an expecting look, to signal her to continue. "Well, I said yes!" She exclaimed with excitement.
"I'm happy for you, I hope you have fun." I responded walking further into the room, expecting that to be the end of the conversation.
"But.. I also said you'd be coming with me. It is tomorrow night though, so we have plenty of time to get ready." She said slowly at first and then picking up the pace.
"I am not going to another one of those parties." I said to her definitely. "You have no idea what kind of day I have had." I paused, taking a deep breath ready to let out what I had been holding in the whole morning. "I just got told that the people that I have not got along with, so far, on our trip, might. Just might, affect the future of my career. And from all people it could have come from, it just had to be from Landon."
"Well then, surely, this will be the best opportunity to make up with those people, like Landon." She took a step closer to me trying to provoke the idea of me going before she had to blackmail me again. "Also," she started, "I did come all the way-"
"Fine." I said reluctantly, before she could use her go-to blackmail.
"And, I think Landon has a thing for you, so this will be the perfect opportunity to make up and possibly-" She began, poking me jokingly.
Before she could continue, I interrupted her once again with fury. I didn't know why I felt so angry, it must have been the sound of his name and how oblivious she made herself look.
"Stop." I said pulling my arm away from her, aggressively. "Are you blind?" I asked her getting more and more enraged. "He hates me, and so does Anastasia for that matter, can you not just try and help my career for once. We came here for me and all you want to do is party and meet new Americans." I felt selfish saying it but she had angered me so much with all the talk about Landon, that I couldn't hold it in anymore. "You haven't helped my career at all, I get back to the hotel and instead of asking how may day has been, you tell me we are going out to another party. It hasn't even been a week yet and you haven't thought about the fact I may have to get up early in the morning. I am fed up with it." I shouted, not realising how much I had raised my voice, "I am done with this trip, and you!" I had never yelled at Reya like I had today, I didn't know what got into me. I regretted everything I said, once I had said it, but I didn't want to let on to her that I did so I stood there in silence, with my arms crossed.
"Get out." Reya said quietly, as a tear rolled down her cheek. "Please pack your bag and leave. I don't want to stay in the same room as you at least not tonight."
"We both paid for this hotel room-"
Before I could finish, Reya raised her voice, "I have spent more time here, waiting for you to come home and get ready for us to do something. So, I think it is clear to say that this is more my room than yours." She paused for a minute, wiping her eyes. "I am fed up with you making yourself out as the victim. Ana had been nothing but nice to you and so have I. I waited for you to finish your first meeting and I have made sure I am back at the hotel in time for you to come home every time after that, even if it meant I had to stop hanging out with my new friends." She paused a second time, taking a deep breath. "So leave now. Use the initiative of yours and go." She continued, with sarcasm.
I grabbed my suitcase and chucked a basic range of my clothes in it as quick as I could, leaving the rest in the wardrobe. I zipped it up making quick glare-like glances to Reya. I then turned around, with my handbag tucked under my arm and the handle to my suitcase in my left hand, took a last glance at Reya and left, slamming the door behind me.
I'm Morgan Wilson, and this is my life.
