I was sweating. I had been chopping wood all day. I was in an old green t-shirt with some big overalls-shorts that we had found in the last town we stopped at. I was using an ax I made with the car door. It had broken off. Anyway, it wasn't just any ax it was a double-sided folding ax what is that you might ask well it's my new favorite weapon. It's basically your regular ax made with some cool wood then you make another ax that looks the same, after you set the ax opposite from each other. When you have done that you put a blot where the handles are and now you can open and close where the bolt is. Now that it's finished you have a regular double-bladed ax that can flip open to make two axes that are hooked together.
In the grove, I was there were trees surrounding our camp. It was a hot early September day. So the leaves on the trees were turning colors. The tree was covered in moss. It would have been a beautiful vacation if I wasn't on the run.
My axe lay next to me. I watched Lance go get something to drink then I heard something. I turned to look but nothing. But when I went back to work and heard it again. Finally I got up and walked closer to the sound. I followed the sound of a tree snapping to a tree. Now there was no noise, just a person in the tree. I stared as she scampered up the tree higher and higher till I thought she would fall. I knew she was scared but if I could just tell her I wasn't going to hurt her- Then I noticed that she was dragonblessed.
I flew into the air, even though I wasn't very good at it. I was better at traveling on foot- close to the ground.
I landed on the same tree as her but lower down.
"Hey up there! You gonna come down?" I yelled up.
She shrunk back as if trying to hide behind her shoulders.
"It's okay I won't hurt you I promise," I said.
She looked like a Lightblessed or something. It was weird another Dragonsblessed in the woods. Rare, even. Don't think I'd ever might another Dragonblessed besides Lance - who was my adopted brother, actually we were both adopted- and well my parents so I guess that's a lot I don't remember my parents so it was technically not much.
She bit down on her lip.
"Come down to the ground and we'll talk," I offered.
She hopped down and glided to the ground way more gracefully than me.
I climbed down the tree instead of flying. I liked the earth better than air.
"Alana." She said in a quiet, almost cute voice.
"Ok, hi Alana," I said.
"Hi," She said timidly.
"Are you living out here alone?" I asked her.
"I..."
There was a rustle in the bushes. Our heads snapped to where the noise had come from, and there were two blue eyes staring at us.
Me and Alana started walking toward whoever or whatever it was. "Hello?" I asked.
It started scrambling backward.
I opened my mouth to say something else but was cut off as an arrow flew out of the bushes and embedded itself into Alana's arm.
