Pain literally stabbed my upper arm. I tried to scream but my mouth wouldn't obey. My vision blurred and my breathing swallowed. I knew it was bad for me but I couldn't seem to control it. I let Aspen and the blue girl carry me to the clearing that Aspen had come from. I could vaguely feel the blood dripping out of the tiny bandage that had somehow appeared on my arm. There was a black boy who took care of my wound. When My vision cleared and I was able to control my breathing, the pain lessened.

The black boy wasn't actually black but very pale. His wings and hair were black and his eyes were deep brown. He was uncomfortably close, looking over my wound. I flinched back and gasped as a stab of pain shot through my arm.

"Whoa, whoa hold still!" he fretted.

"Who are you?" I asked, wincing from the pain.

"Lance,"

I looked around and saw the blue girl and Aspen.

The "Blue girl" was a suntanned teen, probably my age. Her wings were mostly blue but the fingers were silver.. She looked like a Waterblessed. She was standing by Aspen and was gaping at me as if she didn't know what to say. Lance stepped back, his work done.

The waterblessed opened and closed her mouth multiple times before seeming to settle on "I'm so, so sorry..."

I waved her away with my good hand. "I've been through worse."

She still looked sorry.

"What's your name?" I asked.

"K- Lynn."

I nodded and studied the clearing. There were two tents and a fire pit that didn't look used. A Emberblessed would be really useful right now.

I stood up, against Lance's protest, and walked over to the fire. I wasn't very good at starting one cause I didn't practice much but I decided to give it a try anyway. There was wood in the pit but it was a mess. I could feel the others watching me as I rearranged them and stepped back. The pit was in the shade so I had to find a patch of sunlight. Then I stuck out my hand and redirected the light to the fire pit and narrowed the beam to an ultra focused laser. The wood started smoking then burst into flames, which quickly overtook the rest of the wood.

"Wow." Lance breathed in awe. "I could never get that thing started."

I blushed. I wasn't used to praise. "I'm going to go..." I gestured vaguely at the forest and walked away with my head ducked between my shoulders.

I stopped and turned around. "Thank you." Then I turned back around and ran.

***

I wasn't comfortable around other people. I hadn't interacted with anyone for years now. I had to get out of there.

I pulled out a dagger from my belt and stopped running. I held still and listened for anything. Breathing caught my attention and I slowly turned around. The breathing was way too heavy and loud to be a small animal and it sounded human.

A flash of red.

I whirled a dagger at it and a very human sounding hiss escaped their mouth.

"Who's there?" I asked, my voice steadier than I thought it would be.

A red figure- Dragonblessed hopped down from a tree. I studied him. He was beautifully tan with red wings and horns. Strawberry-blond hair and deep brown-red eyes. His arm was red.

Blood.

His arm was covered in blood.

I shrieked and the world darkened.

As my knees buckled I heard someone call something like, Hey! You okay?

I felt strong hands grip me as my knees buckled and my surroundings blinked out.
