Naruto opened his eyes to the unfamiliar scenery. No, that wasn't right. This scenery was very familiar. He sat at the front of a small bus, the bus driver's face an unrecognizable blur. The other passengers were also blurred. A dash of red here, a hint of blue there. That didn't mean his fellow passengers were any more recognizable, nor could he make out any distinguishing traits. Oh, look, that blob there has a tidbit more green on it than that one over there. Nonetheless, it all meant nothing to him. The other passengers were meaningless. He hoped, somewhere in his empty head, that the bus would eventually reach its destination and he'd be allowed off. But, he knew the majority of him didn't care.
This is boring. The same shadows of the outside world could be perceived through the foggy windows passing by. Every turn of the bus that made him certain they were just going in circles, over and over, never to stop. The faceless nobodies that sat on the bus with him. The driver, who hadn't muttered a word to him the entire bus ride. It was, all in all, incredibly boring.
Yet, he still wanted to know what would happen next. As far as he'd cared to know, every blur on the bus had someone sitting next to them. But Naruto sat alone, staring out at shadows.
The bus lurched to a stop. The doors opened, letting in air that smelled strangely similar to the air that would come out of a humidifier if it hadn't been cleaned in years. One more faceless blob walked onto the bus. It seemed to pause for a moment before finding that Naruto's seat was the only one open.
It took the seat next to him, and the fog cleared. His facial features were revealed, his clothes became known for him, and only him, to see. Pale, lavender eyes turned to face him. Naruto held the brunette's eyes only for a moment before the brunette smiled and held out a hand for him. Naruto shook it.
"Neji Hyuga. It's a pleasure to meet you..."
"Naruto Uzumaki."
"Naruto."
The brunette smiled again before letting go. Naruto decided to memorize Neji. Neji was, after all, the first person he'd seen clearly. Neji had his long brown hair tied back loosely, a white headband covering his forehead. He was in a school uniform, with the majority of it being black, except for the white dress shirt and green checkered tie.
"So... Do you know why we're here, Naruto?" The Hyuga's eyes were back on him, and the blonde read Neji like an open book; there was curiosity budding in those eyes, and excitement that Naruto couldn't understand.
"No."
"Oh, I suppose I didn't expect anything different. As soon as I got on, I couldn't remember why I was here."And you aren't concerned at all? Naruto asked himself, raising an eyebrow towards the brunette before sighing under his breath.
"I wonder..." Neji started, before trailing off. He'd turned his head to the side, staring at the pale yellow blob in the seat next to them. The blob appeared to be moving, nodding it's 'head'.
"Hm?"
"How are you taking all of this?" Neji asked. His pale lavender eyes were, once again, upon Naruto's. Naruto responded with the truth.
"I don't mind it. At least it's something different." It was true; the blonde lived a very boring life. He was born into a well-off family and his entire future was practically planned out for him. He had nothing to worry about, so most of the world around him had become boring and dull. The way his life had ended up had formed him into a cold and uncaring person, meaning that nobody wanted to be friends with him, and so no one entertained him. It was all boring.
"I take it you live a boring life?" Naruto nodded, stealing his eyes away from Neji and looking out the window. Yes, he supposed he did. Looking down at his uniform, it was obvious. The navy blue dress pants, white dress shirt, and blue and yellow checkered tie. His jacket had long been discarded after the bus became too hot to keep it on.
"Well, I hope something interesting happens. And if there were some hot girls involved, I wouldn't mind that either..." Neji trailed off, but Naruto got the gist of what he had said. I just hope Neji is okay after this. There's no way this is going to be something normal. Naruto found himself thinking, before closing his eyes shut and forcing himself to get rid of the thought. Thinking that way would let him get close. He couldn't get close to Neji. Couldn't think of him as a friend or an ally. Then it'd hurt more if something happened to him.
Though, in the case that something out of the ordinary happened, at least it wouldn't be boring. It'd be quite interesting. I wonder if someone will die.
Especially if someone dies.
Naruto felt a smile creep its way onto his face. Oh, this will be fun indeed.
Naruto heard Neji exhale sharply through his nose before weight was on his shoulder. He turned, finding Neji's head resting on his shoulders, fast asleep. Now that the blonde thought about it, he did feel rather sleepy all of a sudden. He let his head droop to the side as a final thought came to his head.
Finally.
