Beep. Beep. Beep.
I flip over and slam my hand onto my alarm clock, begging for it to shut up. I hear a crack of plastic and know I've broken another alarm clock. Werewolf strength is not always a good thing. I groan but immediately stop when I realize what day it is! It's the day of my first Ma moitié party!
Now, you may be wondering what a Ma moitié party is...well, Ma moitié is French for my other half, so a Ma moitié party is used for werewolves to find their soulmates, or other halves. Us werewolves just call them mates for short. Your mate is the perfect match for you, and every year a bunch of different people throw parties that every werewolf is invited to in hopes of everyone finding their mates. My parents, the werewolf king and queen, also throw a party every year, but we call that the Ma moitié ball because it is so big!
This year is my first year getting to go to any Ma moitié parties, because I just turned 18 which is the age in which you can begin looking for your mate, and I am so excited that the first party I'm going to is being thrown by my best friends parents! (My parents always throw the Ma moitié ball last, as one big last chance at finding your mate.)
My best friends name is Canyon, and I've known her my whole life! Canyon just turned 18, so her parents wanted her first ever Ma moitié party to be thrown by them. Her parents, Melly and Josh, are amazing people, but put a lot of stress on Canyon to find her mate fast. They found each other when they were both 18, and they hope that Canyon will also find her mate fast. Canyon handles the stress well, though, and is just as excited as me about today.
I hop out of my warm bed and head to the bathroom to take a shower. After my shower I get dressed and head downstairs to the kitchen.
"Hello, Mallory! How are you today?" My family's personal chef, Tod, greets me.
"I'm great, Tod! How are you?" I respond, sitting down at the kitchen table. Tod is one of the only people my father let's call my parents and I by our first names, because he has been a family friend for over 18 years.
"Fantastic! Today's breakfast is chocolate chip pancakes, bacon, and mixed fruit." Tod responds, sitting a plate down in front of me.
I say thank you and dig in. After I'm done, I say goodbye to Tod and head back up to my room. It's only 10:39, and Canyon won't be here until 12:00 to get ready for the party, so I just sit on my bed and get on my phone, waiting for my best friend to arrive. We decided to get ready at my house, because Canyon's is going to be way to busy with party preparations.
At about 12:15 I hear a car pull into our driveway and I know she's here. I race downstairs and open the door before she even gets a chance to knock. "You're finally here!" I scream.
She laughs. "Yeah. Sorry I'm late!"
"It's ok!" I respond and then run upstairs to my room and she follows.
"I'm assuming you running around like a crazy person means you're excited?" She asks with a laugh.
"Yep!" I respond.
We spend the next few hours getting ready. Canyon's really good at makeup, so she does our makeup and I do our hair. The final step is our dresses. Every year, all girls attending Ma moitié parties take a test to determine their personalities. They will be assigned a color based on the results of that test. A lot of girls share a color, but since I'm the princess, I got my color all to myself. I was assigned white, for innocence, so all of my dresses that I will wear to the Ma moitié parties must be white. Canyon was assigned yellow for her bubbly and happy personality, so all of her dresses must be yellow. All of our dresses have been custom made by my royal designer, and we love them.
After putting on our dresses, we take a look in the mirror and smile at our reflections. It feels like just yesterday we were playing tag in my backyard, and now we are going to our first Ma moitié party. Little did I know, that would be the last time I was alone with best friend for a while.
