The battle was over, the castle was in disarray, smoke rose from the walls that were damage from the catapults, and debris covered the land. The courtyard of the castle was covered in blood, and most of the buildings had collapsed. The woman and children huddled together in a circle, crying for their loved ones that were lost in the battle. In the center of the courtyard, a pile of dead bodies were stacked together that was being feasted on by the crows.

A church had collapsed, and what little few of the survivors were slowly exiting, and helping others out of the debris. A baby was handed off to a soilder by a monk, it's mother killed in the collapse of the church. The baby then started to cry, as if it were calling out to its mother. Camilla and Guts looked at the scene with cold eyes, it reminded them about their childhood, which was something they didn't want to remember. Guts was found under the corpse of his dead mother, and Camilla was abandoned on the side of the road with only her sword and no parents. They were found by Gambino and raised by both him and Shizu. Shizu raised both of them with love but after she died of the plague, Gambino raised them and their life after that was blood, fighting, money, and death.

Servant: Next

Upon hearing them being called, both Guts and Camilla stepped forward to collect their pay.

Noble: Here's your two months pay. And of course, there's the reward for Bazuzo.

The nobleman had placed some coins and a bag of sliver on the table. Guts picked up the bag and took out a coin, biting to check if it was real. This was the life that both Guts and Camilla had chosen. They fought, earned money, ate, and slept nothing more. Whenever they did go to a new location for a job, Camilla would ask for any information about her parents. The only thing she had was her sword, that was left with her, when she was found. So far no leads had come up, and Camilla was drawing a blank on where she could look next for more information.

Nobleman: Now, will you reconsider serving me on a regular basis? I'll give you three times the pay, and might even have the chance to become a squire one day. Wouldn't that be nice?

The nobleman sitting his chair, drank a cup of wine, with half eaten food all over the table. If this was how nobles acted, Guts and Camilla wanted nothing to do with it. And not only that, he acted as if she wasn't even there. Not that she cared, this happened all the time, when both Camilla and Guts would take on a job together. They simple looked at the squire with a cold look as he continued to talk.

Nobleman: For common mercenaries like us, becoming a squire? Well it's like a dream come true.

Guts: Dream? You can't eat dreams.

The nobleman spat out his wine as Guts slung his bag over his shoulder and Camilla put on her cloak. They then both began to walk away toward the exit of the castle courtyard.

Nobleman: Wait! I-I can guarantee you money and rank. What could be the problem with that?

Guts and Camilla slowly turned and glared at the nobleman.

Guts: You don't own us. No one cages us in.

Camilla: We only came here for a job. Now that the job is finished are business with you has concluded.

With that said, they both turned their backs to the nobleman and continued towards the exit and left. All the soldiers and the nobleman were shocked at what just transpired. The noble simply sighed and took another drink of his wine, while the servant called for the next man in line.

Guts and Camilla walked down the countryside, tired from their last job but still on guard in case anyone tried to rob them. Guts looked back at Camilla and asked,
