location: mum's car

rushing towards her car, i hop in the passengers seat and open my phone to the 'find my iphone app'. at the time when we both set it up i don't think we thought either of we're ever going to have to use it... but i'm glad we set it up now.

"mum, hurry up!"

i was impatient only because i had heard how badly situations like these can end. girl drunk, boys desperate or horny but mostly both... or girl drunk and getting a ride from a stranger... or girl drunk trying to drive herself... the scenarios whirl through my mind, most leading to unfortunate circumstances.

"i'm coming!" she said, plopping down on to the seat beside me fumbling to get the key in the ignition.

mum new riley and i we're going to the party tonight but i don't think she expected it to go like this.

she reversed out the driveway and quickly straightened up, accelerating along the road, listening to the directions i was giving her according to what the app was saying.

"take a left here," i say exasperatedly.

she careened around the corner making it just.

"you've gotta give me more notice to turn hun!" i could tell she was stressed out too, but i guess riley was over so often she must be like a second daughter to her just like she is my sister.

"i just hope everything is ok..." i sob muffling the sounds in my top.

"i know hunny, so do i. just make sure you keep looking at the directions though." she looked at me and smiled.

although she works way to much i do love my mum and everything she does for me...

after a few more turns we arrive at where the app says she should be - or her phone should be.

we are at the roundabout before the house we had the party at and there she is sitting in the fertile dirt, surrounded by shrubs and bushes. i jumped out the car and slammed my door running towards her. i could hear mum opening her door in the background but i didn't look back because all i cared about was riley. how riley was doing, feeling, looking.

i enveloped her in a big hug, stroking her hair as she sobbed onto my shoulder.

i didn't ask what happened because that wasn't important right now. all that was important was getting her into the car and back to safety.

my mum came up behind me and she didn't ask either. all she did was help me get the shaking riley into the backseat. after we got her sat back there i used a random blanket i found in the boot and wrapped her up in it like a burrito.

mum and i then hopped back in the car, eager to get home.

as mum drove i glanced back at riley  and saw how small and vulnerable she looked, saw her with her eyelids lightly closed.

oh god riley, please tell me something bad didn't happen to you...
