pov: mae's

time: 8:00pm

location: jake's party

the booming of the music filled my ears making me cringe. the smell of alcohol and sweat filled my nose, making me nauseous.

"come on, let's go find jake!"

she pulled on my arm and dragged me through the party. the flashing lights bounced off the shiny decorations which were strung around what seemed to be the hosts loungeroom. i felt riley's tight grip on my arm loosen once we got to the kitchen, where the noise was slighly more quiet and there was some sort of light.

"so, we are looking for a tall guy with brown floppy hair right?" riley leant against the bench casually.

"uhuh," i said before grabbing a handful of cheetos from one of the numerous bowls of food.

"hmmm, you sure like to make my job difficult don't you?" she flicked her hair behind her back casually.

"we don't have to do this, he probably won't li-"

"hey, isn't that one of his friends?" riley interupted.

"umm... no?" i wasn't a very good liar.

riley grabbed my arm again and we walked over towards the guy standing next to where all the drinks were. As we inched closer he turned around to face us and i realised that it wasn't one of jakes friends.

"riley!" i whisper-shouted, but of course, she ignored me.

"hey, do you know jake?" she looked up at him with her hand casually on her hip.

"uhhh?" jake looked at us confused.

"he is a junior, and my friend over here," she nudged me in the ribs, "is looking for him." riley finally stopped talking.

jake turned to me and his expression changed and a smile spread across his face.

"and why would she be looking for me? i mean him." jake had a smirk on his face now.

"because mae has bumped into him in the hallway and wants his num-" this time i nudged her, but much harder so that she squealed.

"hi jake," i said looking at him.

"hi mae," he locked his eyes with mine and then we both turned to riley who was only just making the connection.

"and i oop!" she said giggling nervously.

after riley helped me find jake, she went off into the main part of the party saying, 'i will be back later, have fun... but not too much fun!' i rolled my eyes and turned back to the guy standing in front of me.

"sooo," i said twisting the ring on my finger nervously.

"did you want a drink?" he asked.

"sure," he went to grab us both drinks but he never asked what i wanted.

confused, i sat down on one of the bar stools in the kitchen and took in my surroundings and what had just happened.

a few minutes later i saw jake bob his head around the corner.

"i forgot to ask what you wanted so i had to guess..." he sat down on a stool next to me and passed me a cup.

"i hope you like raspberry lemonade," he laughed.

"who doesn't?" i said as i took a sip of my drink.
