Through the drug-clouded haze and pain, Sammy felt someone near her. This time, she wasn't as confused when she woke up from her drug-induced fugue state, and judging by where she was when she was re-drugged, that person, whoever was standing near her, probably wasn't friendly. With a sharp intake of breath, she launched energy in the direction where she felt the figure.

Sammy opened her eyes in time to see Ryker flung into the wall of Meri and Car's living room by a surge of her pink magic, sending down a shower of plaster as he impacted with a grunt.

"Ryker?" Sam asked confused as the guy pulled himself free of the sizable hole in the wall, coughing as he did so.

"Where...what?" Suddenly, Meri was beside her, grinning and placing a gentle hand on her friend's shoulder.

"You're back Sam."

Mind getting clearer, Sam looked around and registered that she was laying on Meri's couch with a bright pink cast on her arm which throbbed terribly, prompting Sam to let out a reflexive groan.

Mer looked at the arm and frowned. "Yeah, vampire dick doctor said that we couldn't give you any pain meds until whatever shit they injected you with was at least mostly out of your system."

The statement seemed to loosen something in Mer's mind, and she turned to another vampire, Bryn, Sam now noticed, who was standing nearby. "Hey, Bryn, would you mind getting the doc? Tell him Sam's awake? I'd do it, but..."

Sam looked to see that she was using good hand to clutch Meri's. When had she grabbed her hand?

Bryn smiled a little as she said, "Sure thing, Meri" and stalked out of the apartment.

Still coughing and with white dust coating his body, Ryker managed to say, "Looks like the fucking witch will be back up and running in no time."

Meri shot him a withering look that silenced him as tears pricked Sam's eyes and she stared at her best friend pleadingly, "Timmy and Urdie, Meri. You gotta help them...I think..." Sam's hand was shaking.

Mer smirked before wrapping her reclining friend in an awkward hug, careful to avoid her injured arm. "They're fine, Sam. Everyone's fine, and they're on their way here."

Sam nearly cried in relief as Meri pulled back and tugged a cell phone out of her pocket, hitting the dial button and raising it to her ear.

After a second, she spoke, "Hey, Car...Yeah...I'm gonna hand the phone over to her." Sam tried to grab the phone from her friend with her good hand, but her still sleepy fingers refused to keep hold of it.

"Oh, shoot..." Sam said, as she dropped the phone for a second time, prompting Mer to put the phone on speaker and hold it out for her to speak into.

Timothy cradled Urdu's head in his lap as he watched her stretched out over the back seat of the SUV devouring yet another cheeseburger. She'd made them stop at a fast food place about ten times thus far, each time demanding they order a burger and fries even though she only ate the burgers and made the vampires eat all the fries.

Food made sense. She'd used a lot of her power earlier, and it would take time to replenish that, but Tim didn't quite understand the no fries thing.

When Tim had asked her about it, Urdie had shrugged and simply said that Sam always ate the fries when they went out together. Her admission caused his heart to stutter and leading him to lean over and gently kiss her temple. After that, no one pushed the issue.

Car even made a show of pretending to enjoy the human food, and the ancient vampire's poker face was way better than Tim's.

Timothy looked at the dashboard clock. 45 minutes. They'd be back at Knight Corp in New Orleans in roughly 45 minutes. Then...they could see Sam.
