"Kaaaaaattttt!" Jaime yelled from across the aisle. I laughed and made my way over to him. He held up two different baby outfits. "I'm leaning toward the yellow one because it goes with both genders. What do you think?"
"Hmm. I like that. But I said I'm waiting on clothes until tomorrow for the ultrasound." Tomorrow I would go to the doctor. I would finally know if the life form growing inside of me was a girl or boy.
"So then what are we here for?" I had dragged the boys to the store to get baby stuff. Cribs, blankets, bottles, everything you would need. After telling the band they all had agreed to help with raising the baby. It was going to happen.
"I think we have everything. I hope we do." This was more expensive then I thought it was going to be. Jaime and I walked around and gathered Tony, Vic and Mike then we all made our way to the register.
"Either you, my dear, have a very complicated relationship or you have great friends" The man working the register told me. I gave him a half hearted smile but silently cursed his name. He was trying to be funny but it wasn't at all funny to me.
"She knows we always have her back" Mike replied putting his hands on my shoulders.
"Some people these days don't know good friends when they've got them. These boys are keepers, honey." And they were.
*Vic's POV*
I looked over at Kat. It was in the simplest things she did, I fell in love with her even more. She had a forced smile and murderous eyes and I knew the clerk was pissing her off. I tried smiling at her but her glance seemed to fall everywhere but me.
When the man was done scanning the items I gave him my card and then we left. We walked out and all five of us piled into a blue minivan. Tony called the tiny tv that lowered from the ceiling. Nobody argued and he popped in Star Wars almost as if he knew this was coming.
"Vic, I really have to pay you some of it. That had to equal around $1,000 at least," Kat whined from the passengers seat. I looked over at her stunning green eyes and couldn't help but smile though I knew the beautiful girl next to me wasn't joking at all.
"You don't owe me a dime," I told her then leaned in for a kiss. I took a few moments lingering on her watermelon lip gloss she had chosen to wear today. Under the fruity smell of lip stain and minty breath I could still faintly taste cigarettes and alcohol though she had not had either since she found out she was pregnant.
I pulled away and put the key in the ignition. The kiss had shut Kat up for the time being but I knew she would give me money whether I said yes or not and then I would just sneak it back into her bank account. The ride back was almost silent except for Tony bursting out a quote every once in a while causing the rest of us to laugh under our breath. Though I never once looked over I could feel a pair of shocking green eyes stare at me. Not in a cold, mean way, but a reassuring, loving way and I absolutely loved it.
*Kat's POV*
When we arrived back at the apartment building I told Vic I needed some girl time and was going for a drive. I got into my white sedan and just drove. I don't know how far I got before I pulled into a parking lot and killed the engine. I murmured "screw it" and took my emergency pack of cigarettes from the glove compartment.
I had barely taken one drag when a familiar jeep pulled up beside me. Expecting Vic to step out I tensed. Instead Tony appeared and came and sat shotgun with not invitation or greeting. He took a cigarette out of the carton and lit it off of mine.
"Didn't know you were one for smoking," I finally said.
"I'm usually not. Decided to try something new. And you love it so much so there's gotta be some sort of appeal." Tony gave me a look.
I was going to snap back but instead I sighed. Then punched the steering wheel, causing a loud honk which made Tony jump. And finally I burst into tears. Tony wrapped an arm around me. He didn't ask what was wrong, he just comforted me.
We sat there like this for a while. Tony wrapped around me in an embrace and I sobbing into his chest. Why was Tony here? I didn't know but I was damn thankful. He was here when Vic was not. Maybe I should date Tony.
