The cover was full of black with strips of red. The cover was hard and thick- it looked as if it was an ancient book, passed onto generations. When Mary tried opening it, there was a lock that required a key to open. Mary started to panic and took the book from the box and carfully closed it shut as it was before with the note on it. Alot can go wrong with her actions but Mary could not help herself to not, Sarah has a big secret that she does not kbow of and its her right ti find out, she thought as she placed the book in her cupboard, she needed a way to open that book up. Suddenly, she heard fast footsteps racing towards her door, Mary frantically hid among her clothes but luckily no one came in to suspect that she had taken the book. A few minutes later, she went back down stairs to her science class, break time had just finished and the bell for next period roared a deafining ring through the speakers. Sophie was talking to a girl named Laurel, Stacey was playing a hand game with Emily, Serina was looking though her diary with Lizzy and Becky but Sarah was no where to be seen. Mary felt a chill run down her spine as she looked around for Sarah, surely she was suppose to be in this class. Mr Killings came and lead everyone into class, "Melanie, you are back, where had you been all those years," he said to Mary.
" Uh sir, I am new, have not been her before" she replied in confusion, "oh sorry, what am I thinking of, Welcome" Mary nodded awkwardly and walked into class. Sarah finally came 2 minutes after the class had started- "oops, sorry sir, I went to help Mrs Parker, here, she wrote a note to let you know" she handed the note and sat behind Mary.
The class was about how plants grow and etc. Mary was bored and thought about the letter constantly, Sarah, was just sitting behind her, sometimes she felt the urge to ask straight out but that will ruin everything possible. The bell for end of period hubg and everyone rushed out to their next classes. Sarah walked behind Stacey with a group of girls, she seemed soo... popular and... likable. Mary thought about the party and the presents as well as all the people who complemented her at the mall. Keeping a big secret and talking about someone secretly was not something anyone will suspect the all mighty princess Sarah but life is a bit more complicated than it seems. Next class was Guidance and about a girl named Wendy, who had died at the school lake a few weeks before Mary arrived. Sarah went all emotional then and Mary realised that the picture in her locker was of Wendy. Maybe Sarah was good friends with her. As the class crowded around Sarah she started to... according to Mary, smirk. That surprised Mary, how or why will she make a big deal about nothing, or why will she be cruel to a dead girl after showing off her ' sorrow' to others. Suddenly, Sally came around her and sat next to Mary, "why dont you go to Sarah and comfort her like the rest of the class," sbe said.
"Well, I dont know what has just happened," she answered.
"Didn't you hear Mrs Sharpner and watch the clip about poor Wendy,"
"How did she die, I mean how did it all happen?"
"Thats what no one knows, the police is still looking for evidence but theres nothing found."
" Who did she ussually hang out with?"
"Well Sarah and Stacey were her bff's but after meeting this guy named Josh, she full on fell for him and they spent nights together after lights out, because he went to the boarding for boys accross the road, but apparently he did not like her but hung around with her to help him get closer to the Stacey- who was not intrested in that stuff soo yea."
"Soo didn't the police suspect Josh because he probably wanted to get rid of her!"
"Well, at first yea, but its clear that it was not him!"
"How?"
"They had a debating competetion that week and Josh was part of that. So theres no way that its possible!"
"Oh ok, It is sad to loose someone soo close, I lost my mother when I was young and there is still no evidence or trace of her body but I have continuously being told that theres no my mom, no more."
" Thats horrible, how about your dad?"
"My dad re- married with a woman with 2 daughters and went oversees soo I am here now."
"Oh thats sad, a similar thing happened to me, my parents divorced and my mum didn't let me go over to my dads side so they both agreed to send me here and now no one cares or checks up on me!"
"Oh no, Thats terrible, you can talk to me, I am here for you."
"Oh thank you, you can share your problems with me too!"
Just then the bell went and everyone stopped talking about Wendy and went for lunch. Mary was relieved that she had someone to talk to after the horrible discovery. During lunch, Mary sat with Stacey and Sally, Sarah was there too. As she walked towards the bin she felt something under her shoe, it was a small silver key, just then she remembered the notebook and wondered whether it will fit, she quickly picked it up and stuffed it in her pocket and looked around at her table to see if Sarah saw what she had done but Sarah was not there, it was like she dissapeared.
Mary went straight to her room after lunch and skipped Maths, she needed to open that notebook annd figure out what was in it. Sarah wasn't there for the rest of the lunch and Mary started to get suspecious.
In her room, Mary prayed that the key will fit and reveal all the secrets at once. The key had indeed went through the key hole and opened up with a jolt. Relief went through her body but the first page was written in coded writing and so was the rest of the book. Dissappointmemt filled Marys body, she really needed to uncode this book before Sarah found out. She quickly turned her laptop on and typed the letters on the 55th page, nothing came up. Sarah must have written something about it in normal writing, at least the code. After searching the room she walked out to the school cafe and ordered coffee, after that she went to her personal letter box to check if anything had been sent, not that she expected anything but she still went, perhaps some thing lucky could happen. When she opened her locker a letter was in it for Wendy, she Didnt know why, but she coincidentally got everything Wendy used to own, it was like she had to take over a dead persons life. Mary took the letter and locked the box, and headed towards the cafe again.
The letter had no stamps or anything, it was placed in plain white envelope
, Mary opened it up and read the letter:
2009, Nov 9
Sweety,
I miss you too. Now I have to leave M&R too. I promise i will come back for you but you should feel proud that Im still in contact with you and not the others, who knows where they'll be, Bob probably sent them to foster or something.
xoxoxo SophieMary could not believe her eyes, her mother was alive and she had a sister- Wendy, who had died, her mother was refering to her and Rose- her very sister who was luving with a foster family. Wendy, how old was she, twins? maybe not if that was the case everyone may have been calling her Wendy, but no Mr Killings called her Melanie but that could not be true. Sophie, is alive, she ditched Mary and Rose for something soo important that it had tp be done in secret. Does Sophie now know that one of her daughters is dead. Did she have something to do eith her death? Mary couldn't think right anymore, its not possible for something this big to happen within her family, her blood.
It was getting dark and 1 day- first official day had turned into a disaster, more than the worst thing anyone can experience. Problems were building up in her mind. Sarah. Sarah is her only hope so far and getting the answers revealed will not be as easy as it looks.
