It was around 11:30 P.M. when I heard my computer making beeps. Somebody was instantmessaging me. It was Sammy Rudan, my main man. His screen name "Star_Pimper42."
"Hey, heard u thrw up on Creds, is it tru?" Read his message. I sighed and wondered how that spread so fast.
"Yeah, so wut?" I tried to hide my fear of possibly not being able to graduate high school. I calmly waited for him to send his reply. I was hoping my mother wouldn't walk into my room because I was only wearing boxers, and the world wide web only had one practicle use. And we all know what that use was.
"I tht so, wanna meet up with the old gng?" Oh cool all of my friends are in town, we might be able to grab a bite or something.
"Yeah sre, whn?" It didn't take long for his reply.
"Rite nw, meet us at the prk." I grabbed some pants and a jacket and snuck out the window to meet up with my friends. I couldn't wait to hear how everyone had been doing.
When I got to the park, I saw Sammy, he was kinda white and nerdy buyt super nice, he was tall and had long hair. Julia Douglas, her mother's side was from Mexico but her father's side was from Ireland, so she was a little Hispanic but she had long red hair. And this other guy. He was probably almost six feet tall, with bleach blonde hair and tanned skin.
"Who's the new guy?" I questioned.
"This is Campbell White, he's going to college with me." Replied Sammy. Sammy went to the U of M and was majoring in English, but he could've been majoring in Having a Hot Piece of Ass led by Professor Sexy Buns (sorry about that, moving forward).
"Hey, how're you doing mate?" Asked Campbell, he still had a Australian accent on him, but it worked well for him.
"I'm doing good Campbell," I said nervously. I almost said I'm going to do you good, but I stopped myself. "I'm Daniel, Daniel Jones." Campbell looked right into my eyes. He's eyes were a light shade of blue and they just sparkled, just then Julia cracked open a beer and it sprayed all over my face. "Julia you fucking asshole!" I yelled while laughing, we'd been friends ever since we were kids, hell we even went to the same daycare.
"C'mon Dan, you didn't expect me to not do that?" I did expect her to do that I will agree, she tossed me a cold one as a peace offering and we all just sat back and looked at the stars.
"Now these are some lovely stars eh?" Campbell asking to nobody in particular. I was almost too tempted to say not as lovely as you, but again holding back, don't want to scare him off. He began to lean closer to me, and holy crap it was so smooth, and he asked me "Do you see that star right there?"
"Yea, what about it?" I wondered, and he leaned in and said to me something I actually found quite sweet.
"My mother told me before I left three years ago that whenever I get homesick, just look up to that star and I'll be with you in spirit." After Campbell said that a tear rolled down his eye, but he wiped it away. We all sorta sat around on that hill for an hour or so, and for the first time in a while all my worries about my future just sorta went away. All I was worried about was the then and now, and I felt great.
"Hey guys have you heard about Y2K?" Sammy asked, a bit off topic, but to be fair he was a bit drunk.
"The hell is that mate?" Questioned Campbell.
"Sounds like something you would've said in gym class last year." Joked Julia. We all knew that Sammy wasn't exactly a very fit kid, but it wasn't like he was overweight. He was just a bit pudgy.
"No guys this is real, apparently when midnight hits this year every computer will think it's the year 0 then shut down, causing meltdowns at power plants and shit." Sammy sounded very concerned about this, but he seemed calm before so I don't know what's up with him. But he is drunk so yeah.
"Hey it's getting late guys, we should probably go home," Julia was a little nervous about this, hell we all were. We all stood up and went back to our homes and got ready for tomorrow. I went back home, but I couldn't stop thinking about what Sammy said. About Y2K.
