Chapter 20- Bad News VS. Good News
I skip down the stairs happily, humming the tunes of 'Walking On Sunshine'. It may be the overdose of sleep, having such a wonderful boyfriend, and having my best friend here all at once. Oh, and the smell of sizzling bacon strips, too. I can tell today is going to be great. However, my theory is proven wrong when I notice the weary expressions on everyone's faces.
“What's wrong?” I frown at them. What could possibly happen this early in the day? Their eyes travel towards the windows, and I follow their gaze. Through the sheer curtains, I can see reporters and cameras flashing repeatedly, blinding me. The noise of a heavy crowd buzz in my ears, causing a light headache. I stare at the boys and Sarah in curiosity, “What happened?”
I look pointedly at Harry, silently telling him 'Tell me.' His green eyes traveled all around the room, landing on anywhere but me. I cross my arms, glaring at the six pairs of eyes, stuffed down the couch as if they were exhausted. Finally, Liam gave in to my glare and decide to speak up, “Do you want to hear the good news first? Or the bad news?” I think it over for a minute, finally set on hearing the bad news first. “Bad.” I reply simply.
I prepare myself for the worse when Louis let out a long sign. Instead of telling me, he showed me the conflict. A phrase of emotions rushed through me as I stare at another magazine cover. 'Annabell Steven, Harry Style's playtoy, Ugly Past.' My hands were shaky as I flip over the magazine, going to the page listed in the table of contents. My mind is a jumble mess as I thought what kind of dirt is spilled on me now.
My eyes widened in horror, at the picture of me and my family, taken at a park a few days before their death. I trailed my fingers across their faces, a tear dropped out of my eye. My eyes slowly scan the title, my body froze at the headline. 'PARENTS: Dead or Alive? Just another pity story?' Anger boil inside me at the false statement. “A pity story?” I snorted at how someone could be so ridiculous to assume that. Before I could stop myself, I read further.
My eyes read the line “Annabell's parents were found recently at a rehabilitation center, getting treatment.” over and over again. I gasp out loud, dropping the magazine, and fell to the floor. I felt like a bucket of ice was dump on me, making me numb with pain. The guys and Sarah were by my side instantly, but I couldn't make out their faces. The last thought on my mind before everything turned black was: I need to find my parents.
A mixture of voices woke me up. Although I am awake, I didn't open my eyes. I find closing my eyes help me think. However, before I could think, someone's conversation caught my ears. I stay silent, keeping my eyes shut as I listen to their conversation. I can make out Zayn's deep accent, and Louis cute loud voice.
“Did you find the center her parents are at?” I can barely make out Zayn's voice, as the conversation continue. “No, but I know who might knows.” Louis' comment caught my full attention. Much to my disappointment, I hear my door closes and pairs of shuffling feet as they move out of my room. Opening my eyes, I grab the picture on my nightstand, staring at it with determination. “You're not dead?” I sniffle, a few tears leaking out. Stroking my parent's face gently, I whisper with determination and hope, “I will find you. I promise.”
I hastily put the picture back and crawl under my covers when I hear voices coming from outside my door. Moments later, a pair of feet came near me. I instantly recognize the heavy footsteps, created by Harry. I feel someone stroking my face, and a pair of lip on my forehead. “I love you, Annabell.” Hearing him say that, made me feel a whole lot better about this situation. No matter what, I won't let this effect my relationship with him. “I love you, Harry Styles.” I open my eyes, smiling at his bewilder face.
