Early the next morning Nettie headed to the bakery, leaving James asleep on the couch. She left a note saying she was double-checking if everything was ready for the big opening day tomorrow. Since everything was situated she was going to walk to the bakery. With Ergastulum being a small town, there wasn't really a need for her to drive... besides the rapists and gangs roaming the streets. The drive from the apartment to the shop is about ten minutes, so walking shouldn't take long.
During her walk, her mind drifted to the Handyman whom she has taken a liking to. She didn't see him yesterday, and to be honest she was missing him. She passed a woman in a short black dress with a bloody nose.
"Oh my, are you okay?"
The woman said nothing just stared at Nettie with a blank look on her face, hand to her nose to stop the blood. Cursing herself, one day she didn't take her car, she finds a bleeding woman. The woman began to walk away ignoring Nettie's consistent calls. Nettie's huffed bothered why the woman had a bloody nose, to begin with. Continuing her journey to her shop, walking up a set of stairs to get to the higher part of the street. Stopping as she saw the same bloodied woman walking with a blank stare.
"Aye girl, I don't like whores around my place," a gravelly old voice yelled. Nettie turned toward the woman, then looked down at her outfit. It was a short-sleeved pale orange sundress with flowers covering it, paired with white sneakers. Her wild springy curls blow in the wind as she looked back up at the woman. "Yeah, I'm talking to you," the elderly woman was looking straight at her, so there was no mistaking who she was talking to.
Nettie frowned offended placing her hands on her hips, "I am not a whore, ma'am," the woman just scoffed a looked at Nettie up and down. "That skanky dress says otherwise," Nettie's frowned deepened. Her dress was not "skanky" it was a bit lower than mid-thigh, and her breast was put up. And if she wanted to wear skanky dress she would, she is a grown woman, and she would not be slut-shamed by an old hag who wasn't even her mother. Before Nettie could give the elder woman a piece of her mind a voice intervened.
"Oh stop it, Granny, she looks amazing in that dress," Worick playful seductive voice enchanted Nettie's ears. During her bickering with this 'Granny', she failed to notice Worick and Nicolas leaning against the railing. Worick walked up to Nettie, "don't mind her the age is making her senile," the woman grumbled lighting up a cigarette. Nettie chuckled a the comment beginning to forget about the rude remarks from the woman. Looking past his shoulder at Nicolas "hi, Nicolas," she waved, luckily he was looking their direction. Holding his hand up as a greet, Turing backing looking over the railing, noticing he dropped a white fabric over the ledge.
"You really do look very pretty," Worick complimented again. Nettie blushed feeling giddy shyly looking up at him, Worick looked back down at her. Only this man could make her feel like a teenager, and fill her stomach with butterflies.
"Just fuck already and get it out of the way," Granny said interrupting the sweet moment the two individuals.
"Okay, I'm leaving I have somewhere to be anyways," Nettie began walking briskly to her bakery. Worick grabbed her wrist before she could get too far away, "where you going in a rush, Net,".
"I'm not in a rush I just have to get away for this lady, and I'm on my way to the bakery to double checked everything, it's opening day tomorrow," Nettie said feeling quite eager to get away from the suffocating terrible excuse of a woman."I can walk you there were headed that way already," Worick suggested not wanting her to leave just yet. She smiled happily a nodded her head pushing her curls back out her face, with her back to the direction she was heading she took a step backward away from Worick, smiling waiting for him to follow. He turned towards Nicolas, "I'm going with Nettie I'll meet you at the gun shop," Nicolas nodded.
