The aroma of bacon gently woke James the next morning, opening his eyes he realized that last night was not a dream. His new switchblade still tightly clutched in his hand, prying himself from his bed. Moving to his bathroom, allowing the privilege to take a long hot shower. Walking into the kitchen, he sees Nettie with an assortment of food. Bacon, biscuits, waffles, eggs, there was so much food. When Nettie cooked she did it like she was serving an entire community. The good thing was James had a bottomless stomach.
"Mornin' Jay, sit I made a little breakfast." Nettie placed a big plate in front of the Tag along with a cup of juice.
"A little," James said sarcastically as he sat in front of his plate. Nettie playfully rolled her eyes sitting across from him with her own food. The pair talked and ate, well Nettie rambled while James shoveled food into his mouth.
"What are you doing today, Jay?" Today was Sunday which meant no work. It was much needed for the pair with the bakery being so busy lately. James continued to chew, his cheeks stuffed like a chipmunk.
"I'm busy today," with words jumbled as his mouth was full. His vague answer was loud and clear, he was taking care of Tag duties. Although Nettie was familiar with death it chilled her to her bones, it frightened her tremendously. Especially, when it involved someone she cared for.
"Please, be careful Jay. Come home tonight, okay." Nettie knew this was something that he was used to, but he was her family now. James slowly swallowed the food, staring at the anxious woman. He just slowly nodded not making any promises, because as a Tag he knew he could die any day. However, he would try extra hard to not die... just for her.
With James having obliterated all of the food, Nettie began washing the dish. Maybe she would go see Worick today, she missed the blonde man. James was dressed, twirling his switchblade between his fingers, seeing Nettie putting away the last dish.
"I'm leaving," he called as he walked to the window in the living room. Nettie called out to him before he could leave, he turned around and was crushed in her arms, pressing a kiss to his forehead.
"Come home safe, Jaybird," she hugged him tighter before pulling away, the Tag had a blush that coated his cheeks. Look away bashfully, shoving his hands in his hoodie pockets.
"Stop being weird," he said embarrassed. Looking at the woman seeing she was genuinely nervous about his wellbeing.
"I'll see you, later tonight geez," he uttered which eased the woman's nerves a bit. She nodded waving as the boy jumped out the window landing on his feet with ease. He looked back up seeing Nettie waving. He rolled his eyes quickly running off, a soft smile gracing his face.
Nettie sighed as James slowly disappeared from her sight. Hopefully, Worick didn't mind her coming over.
