The next thing Lea knew, her feet were carrying her out of the living room and down the hall way, toward her bed. She heard faint voices calling out to her, recognized the voices as Dylan and Jade's, but couldn't bring herself to turn around and acknowledge them. Instead she ran into her bedroom and collapsed onto the floor in front of her night stand.
Dylan ran into the room, Jade following close behind. He knelt down beside her and noticed the distraught expression plastered across her face. "What's wrong, Darling?" He asked her as a concerned look flooded his features.
"Yea, when I read that phone number, you looked like you had seen a ghost. What's going on? Why'd you run off?" Jade chimed in from behind.
Once again, Lea ignored their questions. She opened the drawer to her side table and began rifling through its contents. Finally, she found what she was looking for and pulled the photograph out with shaking fingers.
She stared down at the headshot of the beautiful woman she suspected had been Mason's lover. She had big, brown eyes and long, chocolate colored hair that cascaded over her shoulders. She really was beautiful.
Considering Mason's profession as a hot shot broadway musical director, it wasn't a surprise that a headshot like this would be in his possession. He was always looking for new talent, especially of the female variety...the pig. What had surprised Lea, however, was the way she caught him staring at that particular photo, right before bed almost every night for the last half of their relationship. When she confronted him about it, he told her it was nothing...just business. He was casting for a new production and wanted to make sure the woman fit the part.
At the time she wanted to believe him. She had to, for the sake of her own sanity.
But now she knew better.
She turned to Dylan and flashed him the picture. "Do you know this girl?" She asked, trying in vain to keep her voice steady.
Lea heard a gasp escape Dylan's lips. He took the picture out of her hands and stared down at it in awe, before gently running his calloused fingers over its surface. "Know her? Lea, this is Sofia." He answered.
"It's her headshot. The one she used when she went on auditions," Jade added. Lea knew her face registered just as much shock as Dylan's.
Suddenly, fresh tears began to fall from her eyes. She had promised to never shed another tear for Mason, and part of her felt ashamed for doing it now. But having this bomb dropped on her made everything seem so much more real. She couldn't bear to hide her emotions.
"Lea, how the hell do you have this?" Dylan demanded. He tore his eyes away from the picture to lock them with Lea's. Though her vision was blurred, she could clearly see the intensity in his stare and shivers shot up and down her spine in response. He was almost scaring her.
"It's not mine," Lea answered quickly, with a quivering voice. She stood up and began to walk, but only made it to the foot of the bed before her weak knees caused her to collapse again. "It's M-Mason's...He left it here, and I...I found it in his things after he left."
"Are you telling us what I think you're telling us?" Jade asked incredulously.
Dylan got up and joined Lea on the bed. He grabbed her hand in his own, forcing her to turn and look them both in the eyes.
Lea nodded, knowing Dylan and Jade were beginning to figure it out. She still had to say it out loud. "That phone number you read...it belongs to Mason. Mason and Sofia were cheating on Dylan and I...with each other."
Jade let a whistle escape her lips in shock. "Damn. How's that for a plot twist!" She exclaimed.
Dylan tucked a piece of hair behind Lea's ear, and forced a smile in her direction. Lea appreciated his attempt to hide the emotions she knew wracked his insides. She knew he hid them for her sake. "Wow," he began, reaching up to rub the back of his neck nervously. "I guess it was quite the coincidence that we met in that alley way, wasn't it."
