Monday morning, it's windy and cold out. I'm briskly walking to school which begins in ten minutes. That's when I hear a distant sound, "Run." I look around, nothing, "Run. Run." this time it's closer. "Run!" Now it sounds like it's in my head. I stumble turning around trying to find where the voice comes from. I start pedantically running, but then I hear screaming in my head, "Run, now!" I hit the ground and quickly get back onto my feet to see what tripped me over. It is a girl around my age, she latches onto my arm and tries pulling me down. I hear desperately screams in my head, "Run, get out!" but her mouth doesn't move, in fact she doesn't open her mouth once. I lock eyes with her. Her eyes are sunken in from a lack of sleep, her hair is shaved off and she has deep scars across her head. She digs her nails into my skin and starts crying. All I hear is, "Run! Run! Run!" on repeat in my head all while she stares at me with tears streaming down her face. She doesn't make a sound but the voice in my head overwhelms me so I kick her and run. The further I get from her the fainter the voice in my head is, "Run! Run!" I look back and keep running until I can't see her and the voice is finally gone.
I meet my friends right before the bell rings, "Geez Adi, you look horrible." My friend Naomi is blunt and that's what I love about her. "Are you okay?" My friend Nora knits her eyebrows together and looks concerned. I'm too puffed to answer so I hold a thumbs up. Naomi helps me up as she says, "You still have ten minutes left, why the bloody hell did you run here?" I nearly tell her about earlier but decide not to because I barely believe it myself. I just puff out, "A bee." She shakes her head and laughs. The bell rings and we go to class.
I meet the rest of my friends in science during second period. I'm sitting with Hayley as I usually do and I'm joined by Uriah which is skipping math to be with us. Uriah leans his chair towards us and whispers, "What did the plate say to the other?" Hayley and I look at each other and shake our heads in defeat. He then grins and says, "Dinners on me." We all burst out laughing so loud Mr Kurst sends Uriah back to his class. Once everything settles we copy the board and through the glass doors we see unusual people dressed in an unfamiliar black uniform They all look buff and scary. I elbow Hayley, "Hey, who are the weirdos?" Hayley looks up and shrugs. As the men and women walk past it seems all of them give me the side eye. I freeze as the squad of about twenty people walk past, one even stops to look at me and laughs. No it's okay, I tell myself, you're just being paranoid.
As we continue the day to fourth period the amount of people in black uniform increase. Each one seems to look at me but that must be because I'm shaken up from this morning. As we pack up our stuff I whisper to Nora, "So what's the deal with all those people." She looks up and quickly grabs her bag, "Shoot they found my drugs, Naomi run!" Her and Naomi pretend to hide the bag all while giggling uncontrollably. I then look at them and ask, "Seriously, what's the deal?" Naomi looks around, "Probably one of the dummies doing something illegal." Nora nods in agreement, "Yeah, after they discovered the imports of weed maybe they called in a team to find more." We all look at each other and then get down to work, which inevitably ends in me poking Nora from boredom. Right before the bell rings I get a note instructing me to go to the office, I grin, "Dammit they caught me, the jig is up. You guys hide the drugs." We burst out giggling and part ways.
