Abby was walking home from school and heard some rummaging in the bumpster. She opened the lid of the dumpster and a small kitten looked at her and gave a pitiful meow. The kitten could not have gotten in on its own. Abby’s eyes teared up, “You poor little baby. Someone threw you away” she said in a wimper.

She climbed into the dumpster and picked up the dirty, mange covered kitten. It was weak and tired and fell asleep in her arms. She can home to her dad drunk on the couch as usual and quietly went into the kitchen and gave the poor animal a bath and food. The little creature walked around the kitchen as if it was the first kind gesture anyone has ever shown it. It was black-gray with a pure white stomach. She looked at the pitiful little kitten and whispered, “I think you look like a Socks.” The kitten gave out a soft mew, as if to agree.

As she started to clean the empty beer bottle the kitten started to bat them around toward Abby. She let out a small laugh. She said with a sad smile, “We have to take you to the vet on the way home from school tomorrow to see if you have a home. If not we can get you cared for and get you kitten food. I was saving for a phone so I could talk to my mom but you are more important, besides if she loved me she would have taken me away from dad.”

On the way to school they went into the vets office. “Excuse me can I leave this kitten here?”

    “Are you the owner?”

    “Ya.”

“May I see his papers ma’m?”

    “My what?”

“Your cat should have papers from the shelter or local breeder.”

“I found him in the dumpster on the way home from school. I have the money. I just want to make sure he gets some where save.”

“Oh, I see. We can get you in.”

They sat down and Abby stroked the scared little kitten. She was thinking of what type of horrible person would throw away such a sweet, cuddly kitten.

    “Abby Jones with Socks?”

“Hi, ya I was curious to see if Socks is chipped. I would also like to get all of his shots and make sure he is healthy.”

“Ok,” the vet said in a warm voice as she placed Socks on the table and checked for the chip and it beeped. “It appears that he has a chip.” She looked at the computer and shook her head. “The owner of this kitten is now unavailable to take him due to over breeding. You would be able to take him. That is if you would like to.”

Abby looked at the gentle playful eyes of Socks and picked him up and kisses his head, “Of course. I would love to have such a sweet kitten.”
