Cold. Just her luck. Rose and Lex were scaling up an ice wall on the side of a mountain or whatever in Nepal. For what reason? Rose sure as hell doesn't know. There came a beeping noise causing Lex to slip a bit as the ice below her foot cracked as fell, still holding on. Rose sighed in relief as Lex answered her earpiece to see who it was.
"Hello?" She asked.
"Miss Woods, pleasure make your acquaintance," The man on the other side greeted.
Who the hell was this?
"Who is this?" Lex asked as she continued to climb with Rose following.
"My name's Maxwell Stafford. I represent Weyland industries," He spoke calmly.
"Let me guess. He's suing us again?" Lex asked, Rose snorting in amusement.
"You misunderstand. Mr. Weyland, he's offered to fund the foundation with which you are associated for a full year if you'll meet with him including your friend," Maxwell explained. Rose and Lex continued to climb.
"When?" Lex asked.
"Tomorrow," Maxwell replied simply.
"Tomorrow's gonna be a problem. It'll take us a week to get back to the world," Les grunted out as she finally reached the top.
"Yes, I told him that. He said he didn't have a week," the man finished.
There he was by a chopper. Rose rolled her eyes and pulled herself up, along with Lex. They hopped into the chopper and they were off to Antarctica. Lex was asleep while Rose had her eyes shut behind her sunglasses resting them.
This guy was taking pictures with flash on! UGH! Rose growled and opened her eyes. While Lex woke up to see who had done it. Rose had learned his name was Graeme Miller, a chemical engineer.
"Lex, you and your friends buckle up. We are going to hit some turbulence," the pilot called out.
"Is he a friend of yours?" Graeme asked while buckling up.
"Of my dad's. My father trained most of the pilots down here," She replied.
Rose didn't feel like talking and just watched them. When they landed Rose sat beside Lex in the huge boat.
"Welcome aboard everyone. Some of you may be wondering why this team has been assembled. Your host will give the answer now. Mr. Weyland," Maxwell stated as the lights go dim and a projection comes up.
Every one turned to look up and there was Mr. Weyland.
"Seven days ago one of my satellites over Antarctica hunting for mineral deposits discovered a sudden heat bloom beneath the earth... Which outlined this," he said as the projection zoomed in. "The red lines indicates solid walls. Through thermal mapping we've generated a rough three-dimensional image of the structure. It's massive containing hundreds of rooms. All built around a central core. My experts tell me it's a pyramid. What they can't agree on is who built it and when. One expert tells me this has features reminiscent of the Aztecs. While another tells me it's probably Cambodian. What they all agree on is that the smooth side is definitely Egyptian."
"I think all your experts are right,: a guy called out looking at him.
"Which one?" Mr. Weyland asked.
"All of them," the man replied getting up.
"Meaning what exactly?" Lex asked and Rose agreeing.
"This pyramid contains the features of all three cultures. This might be the first pyramid ever built," the guy said as the lights came back on.
The first civilization? This pyramid is thousands of feet below the ice? Just great. Lex was explaining that no one was ready for this trip but no one was listening. While Lex was packing Maxwell came and just stood there watching them.
"I've spoken to Mr. Weyland. The money has been sent to your foundation's account. Chopper's refueling to fly you both home," he said turning to leave.
"Who'd you get?" Lex asked him as rose lean against the wall watching.
"Gerald Murdoch," he said leaving.
Time to pay a visit to Mr. Weyland.
Once they were in the office, Lex started to speak, "Gerald Murdoch has two seasons of ice time. He's not ready."
"Don't worry about it," Mr Weyland assured her.
"What about Paul Woodman or Andrew Keever?" Lex asked.
"We called them," he said simply.
"And?" Lex and Rose asked in union.
"They gave the same bullshit answer you did," Maxwell stated.
"We need you to take us from the ship to the pyramid and then back to the ship. That's it," Mr. Weyland said.
"And what about inside the pyramid?" she asked.
"You don't have to worry about that. Once we're on the site, we have the best equipment, technology and experts that money can buy. Is this new?" Mr Weyland asked Maxwell.
"It's the latest," he answered.
"Mr Weyland, when I lead my team I don't leave my team. Especially my friends," Lex said looking at Rose.
"I admire your passion. I wish you were going with us," Mr Weyland said as he lean back in his chair.
"You're making a mistake," Lex said simply as they left the office.
Rose and Lex stood outside at the railing looking at the night sky. Two guys beside them were explaining how the northern lights are formed.
"I wish you both reconsider about coming with us," Graeme said.
The other guy she learned his name was Sebastian which is a nice name.
"Do we stand a better chance surviving with you? Or with the second choice?" Sebastian asked.
Total silence until a woman came out the door.
"Miss Woods and Miss Wolfmoon, your helicopter us refueled. They're waiting for you," she said standing there.
Maybe they can stay. Everyone was getting ready to load up until Lex started to get everyone's attention.
"Everyone, Listen up! Gather around here gentlemen," Lex called out while looking at Sebastian and Miller. "It's my friends and mine job to keep you alive on this expedition. In order to do that, we need your help. Since I don't have time to properly train you , I'm laying down some ground rules. One: No one goes anywhere alone- ever. Two: Everyone must maintain communication. Three: Unexpected things are going to happen and when they do. NO ONE is to try be a hero. Final one: My friend is not human. She is a demon. Please do not agitate her and neither try to make your way with her. Understand?"
Everyone became shocked but agreed. They finished loading upo the trucks and began to move out.
"What's with the bottle cap? Lex asked Sebastian.
"Oh! This is a..a valuable archaeological find," He joked. Rose huffed in amusement as he continued. "When I was a kid growing up in Italy, you know what they call a moon like that?"
"Hmm?" Lex hemmed.
"La luna del cacciatore," he said in fluent Italian. "Translated to hunters moon."
They arrived on the edge of a cliff and everyone hopped out to take a look. Lex shot up a flare which lit up the area.
"It's an abandoned whaling station. According to your satellite imagery, Mr Weyland, the pyramid is located directly beneath it," Lex explained as Rose nodded.
They brought down the trucks and began to work.
"What are these?" Sebastian asked as he looked at a huge bone.
"Whale bones. This station was abandoned in 1904. Everyone just disappeared overnight. It was a big tragedy back then," She said as she fired off another flare.
They made their way into the station and inside one of the abandoned buildings where Miller was.
"No one goes anywhere alone,"Lex reminded him. He looked skittish.
"There's something here. Listen," Miller hushed.
It was only a penguin. Rose patted it on the head as it scattered off. The sound of yelling brought Rose out of her attention, what now? She ran over with everyone to see a hole. It would lead straight to the pyramid at a perfect 30 degree cut. Rose opened the truck door to see Mr Weyland coughing and inhaling something. He was sick and Rose could sense it.
"There's no room for sick men on this expedition," Lex stated.
"My doctors tell me the worst is behind me," He said as he pats his chest.
"Your not a good liar," Rose interrupts Lex as she looks dead at him.
"Stay on the ship. We'll update you at the top of every hour," Lex reassures him.
"You know when you get sick , your thinking about your life and how you're going to be remembered. Know what I realized will happen when I go? Ten percent fall in share prices or maybe twelve. That's it," he said looking at her.
Lex explained the story of her dad and such with a frown as she did.
"Or try being an angel that has been cast out of heaven to be burned in a pool of red burning sulfur. Only because you were hanging around the wrong people and asked to much about the ineffable plan," Rose muttered looking down.
I understand what has happened to the both of you. But I need to do this," Mr Weyland Pleaded with them.
Rose looked to Lex before looking back at Mr Weyland as if she was reading his mind. He really was going down there and possibly die. If this was his plan, than so be it. Rose can't stop him and doesn't care of what humans do these days. If they want to die, then so be it.
