Eddie POV

I walk into 6th period, my mood lifting as excitement sets in. Theatre is my favorite class, it always has been. I'm a cliche, the gay theatre kid, but I don't care. It's 2019, after all, and I can be whatever I want to be. Once I'm in the classroom, I spot a few familiar faces. Beverly Marsh in a chair, her legs draped across Richie's lap. My heart seizes up at the sight of Richie. I walk over to them, and Richie gets out of his chair when he sees me. He makes his way over to me, a smile on his face.

"Hey, Eddie!" He says, and I'm about to respond when I trip over Henry Bower's outstretched leg. I fly forward, landing against something soft and warm. I look up and see Richie Tozier. He grins and laughs, but all words have stopped in my throat.

"I've saved you, my prince." He says in a voice I can't put a finger on. I snap out of it and push him off of me.

"I'm a queen," I mutter and he laughs very loudly. He gets down on one knee and bows to me.

"My apologies, your majesty." He says. I grab his hands in mine and he looks up at me.

"There is only one way you can earn my forgiveness," I say dramatically, and he grips my hands harder.

"Anything! I'll do anything!" He says, pulling me closer. I lean down until my face is level with his.

"With a kiss," I say, sounding way more confident than I feel. I see the shock on his face. He flushes, pulling away from me slightly. I laugh, shoving his shoulder. "I'm just kidding! I was practicing for the lead role that I know I'm gonna get this year." I smack his head affectionately. I turn around and see Henry glaring at us. I flip him the bird and turn back around to see Richie blushing as Beverly whispers something in his ear.

"Shut up! I don't swing that way!" He whisper-yells, barely loud enough for me to hear. I step closer to them and clear my throat.

"Are you sure about that, Trashmouth?" I ask, a smirk on my face. His face gets even redder but he manages to fire back.

"100% Ed's, someone's got to keep your mother satisfied!" He says confidently. I punch his arm.

"Gross! And don't call me that." I say, referring to the nickname. Eds. It's cute, but I don't want other people to start calling me that. No one except Richie, that is. I take my seat beside Richie, leaning over him to look at Bev, who is on his other side. This isn't a classroom, but a bigger room that is painted completely black, floor, ceiling, walls and all. We call it the Big Black Box. Our theatre director, Ms. Green, walks out in front of the class.

"Hello, class! Today we are gonna start with some ice-breaker games! Everyone circle up!" She says beckoning to us. She has thin blonde hair and can't be older than 30. We all head down to the floor and sit in a big circle. I end up between Richie and Beverly.

"Everyone tell me your name, grade, and two interesting facts about you!" She looks around the room and her eyes land on Beverly. "Miss Marsh! Why don't you start?" Beverly smiles brightly.

"My name is Beverly Marsh, I'm a junior. I like fashion and I was the lead in last year's play!" She says excitedly. I clear my throat.

"I'm Eddie Kaspbrak and I'm a junior and I'm really short but filled with chaotic gay energy!" Richie, who was drinking from his water bottle, snorts and water goes flying out of his nose. Everyone laughs and Eddie grabs his arm as he laughs harder than anyone. When everyone has gained their composure, Ms. Green speaks up.

"Thank you, Eddie. Now, if we could please move on..." She trails off, looking pointedly at Richie.

"Oh! I'm Richie Tozier, junior, and I am really fuc- fricking hilarious and surprisingly smart!" He says confidently. I almost scoff.
