The Reader's Point of View:

Knocking gently on the wooden door, I turned the handle and gently swung it open. The little child laying in bed immediately began to stir. "Wake up, birthday girl." I smiled softly, walking into the room and sitting on the edge of the mattress. The little blonde rolled over onto her back, rubbing her eyes and opening the lids to look at me sleepily. In a matter of seconds, a drowsy smile formed across her pink lips.

"Morning, mama." She greeted. Returning her smile, I leaned forward, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead between the dirty blonde strands that made up her bangs. The little girl continued to smile as she began to stretch her arms up and outwards. Standing from where I had sat on the edge of the bed, I announced, "Rise and shine, girly. After breakfast, why don't you go feed the horses while I do the dishes. And hey, I got a surprise for you when you come back in." The smile remained across her lips as I walked out of her bedroom.

I made my way down the hallway towards the kitchen, ready to prepare an amazing breakfast stew for my little daughter. As I began the preparation for the breakfast, I heard her little feet shuffle between the rooms that were kept connected because of the hallway. Hearing the water in the wash basin slosh around signaled she was washing her face and hands before breakfast. Good girl, I thought. There were more footsteps, walking back into her bedroom. The double doors of her wardrobe opened, stayed silent for about three minutes before closing once more, meaning she had chosen her outfit of choice for her seventh birthday. The sound of drawers opening and closing meant she was searching for her preferred hairbrush to brush through her blonde locks, pull them into their usual assembled braid.

Soon enough, the soft patter of bare feet had transitioned into the only muted stomp of little boots making their way down the hall towards the dining room. By the time she had completely made herself up and approach the dining room table, the stew was being dolloped into a bowl for her.

"That smells good." The same little smile reappeared across her lips, only seeming to be slightly more awake then before. Returning the smile, I sat both bowls down in their usual places, then I pulled her chair outwards for her to take her seat. She wasn't getting the princess treatment simply because it was her birthday. I treated my little girl like this everyday, because she deserved it.

Her and I sat quietly at the small dining room table, focusing on our breakfast. "How'd you sleep last night?" I asked her in between bites. "Um..." She started before shoveling another bite in between her lips and wiping her mouth with a crisp napkin. Just as I had taught her, ladylike manners at the dinner table.

"I slept alright, I guess... I had a rather strange dream." She finished her answer. Raising an eyebrow, I took another bite before asking, "Enlighten me, dear." Sniffling slightly, she sat her spoon down beside the bowl and wiped away her lips once more.

"Well... It was a short dream even though it felt like it lasted all night. It was just a buck. A buck walking through such a pretty meadow, and the sun looked like it was setting but it was high in the sky. Everything was gold. It was so pretty but odd." I watched her as she elaborated on her dream, describing something that a dear old friend of mine had described once to me from his dreams. I knew she didn't have these dreams for the same reason he had. Maybe that was his angel reaching to her, even in an odd way. He was slightly odd, or at least had his moments.
