Mabel plopped a bunch of her sweaters into a suitcase and tried to zip it closed, groaning as she attempted multiple times to zip the thing shut. "I can't believe it," she said with a smile as she plopped herself onto the top of the suitcase. "The number two hero is gonna take us in! Imagine all the cool gadgets he has in his lair."
Dipper rolled his eyes with a smile as he put all his favorite books into a backpack. "It's not a lair, Mabel. He's not some supervillain or something."
"I know, Dipdot, I'm just super excited that we finally get to leave this dump!"
"Keep it down, Ms. Hill has been nothing but nice to us," Dipper scolded as he finished packing everything he wanted to have when they flew up to Oregon, which was where Mr. Mystery was living. "And this place really isn't that bad." Suddenly, a piece of wallpaper peeled off the wall and some dust fell onto one of Mabel's old sock puppets. "I take it back," Dipper muttered.
Mabel laughed and dusted off her sock puppets. "I'll miss it though, won't you?" She asked.
Dipper nodded. "Yeah. Let's go, I bet they're waiting on us."
The two dragged their many trunks down to the lobby, where a bunch of other kids, mostly younger than them, were waiting and watching with wide eyes and faces of curiosity. Mabel excitedly explained that she and Dipper were leaving while Dipper plugged in his headphones and pressed play on his playlist.
The exams were a blur of excitement. Dipper didn't really focus too much, and he only reality checked himself once the plane landed in Salem, the capital of Oregon. The representative then made them get back of a limousine, and finally, they began to drive through the woods. Mabel, once again, was excitedly babbling to Dipper about how they were finally moving and getting see more of the world. Dipper, well, he wasn't listening that much. His nerves were on edge, jittery with the feeling of excitement to meet the second most powerful person in the world. Second to Sixer, of course. Sixer was amazing, but Mr. Mystery was super cool too.
As the car came to a stop, Dipper found himself gaping at the small cabin. The shack was, to put it nicely, ancient. It was a freaking tourist trap called the Mystery (S)hack. "What the-" Dipper began. "Is this seriously Mr. Mystery's house?"
"Who cares!" Mabel interrupted him, stars in her eyes. "It's perfect! C'mon, I bet they have a whole maze of systems underground, just wait and see!" She said passionately. Dipper sighed but silently agreed with the hope of having a cool base. The agent led them both of them out of the car and to the front door. Mabel was ogling at all different parts of the area surrounding the broken down tourist trap. Heck, there was a goat wandering around the property.
The agent, who didn't talk at all during the entire ride to the old shack, knocked on the door and seemed to grimace as she waited for someone, maybe Mr. Mystery, to open the door. Someone did open the door, but it wasn't Mr. Mystery. A red-head teenage girl with grime smeared all over her green flannel smiled widely.
"You two must be Mabel and Mason," she said, holding her hand out for them to shake it.
Mabel eagerly took it as Dipper shifted awkwardly. "I go by Dipper," he said, his face flushed with semi-embarrassment.
The red-head smiled, embarrassment hinted in her face as well. "Sorry Dipper, the forms listed you as Mason. Anyway, I'm Wendy, I'm your Grunkle's secretary and one of his tech assistants. I sort of the run the place when your Grunkle's away."
Mabel tilted her head. "Grunkle? What's a Grunkle?"
"I thought you knew? Stan, Mr. Mystery, is your Great-Uncle; I took the liberty of combining the names into 'Grunkle'."
Mabel's jaw dropped as Dipper sighed. "Grownups never tell us anything."
"Yeah, I totally get it," Wendy said, beckoning to the representative that they could leave, and which they did, leaving the two teenagers alone with Wendy. "Anyway, why don't you guys come in. I'll give you the full tour and help you get settled. Then, we can meet up with Stan once he's done with his daily patrol. Sound good?" she finished as the twins nodded. "Alright! If you'll follow me inside, I'll give you guys the basic rundown of this place. Oh yeah, you can leave your stuff here."
Wendy took them through each room in the old, two-story shack. To answer Mabel's question, there was an underground base. Wendy said that they would be able to go down there the next day after they settled in and got all their school registration forms turned into the high school nearby.
"Wait, school? Are you kidding?!" Mabel whined, leaning on Dipper for support as they came to a stop at the two's room on the second floor.
Dipper rolled his eyes. "Don't be so dramatic, sis."
"But I have every right to! We're training to be superheroes now, we don't need school!" She complained.
Wendy shrugged. "YHTS said it was required. Not my rule. Anyway, this is your room. I'll be downstairs in the gift shop if you need me. Just settle in. Dinner is at like 6 or 7, not completely sure. Anyway, yeah, that's it. It was cool meeting you both!" She said as she made her way downstairs.
"You too!" Mabel called back. "Come on Dip, let's go inside. I call the right half of the room!" She said, eagerly opening the wooden door.
Dipper smiled. "Whatever, just don't move your stuff over the midline."
"Sure, I know the rules!"
The two finished unpacking and went downstairs for dinner around 6:30. Much to their dismay, Mr. Mystery, or Stan as Wendy had called him, hadn't gotten back from his patrol in time for dinner. So after a rather bland dinner of takeout from the local diner, the Pines twins retired back into their new bedroom. As they fell asleep, the stars outside twinkled and flickered, trying to stand out against the sea of stars spread across the night sky. They were trying to make a name for themselves, just like Dipper and Mabel would be doing in the days to come at their new school, in which they'd be attending the next day.
