The sun was not even above the horizon when Dipper's alarm went off the following morning. It was a Monday, and the twins had school in two and a half hours. Dipper only got up early because he wanted to get at some early morning training before school. After throwing on some clothes, he went outside. For a February morning, it was relatively warmer out than normal. It was still cold, but it wasn't bitter. It hadn't snowed in a few days, so everything was covered in a light frost rather than snow.
Closing his eyes, the brunette focused his energy on the nature around him, breathing in a breath of cold air. The ground shook a bit as Dipper dragged a log from the edge of the dirt parking lot. Extensions of the log, like sticks but tougher, moved it to stand upright. Dipper, having opened his eyes by now, pulled vines from the forest behind him. He consistently began to abuse the log. Sometimes his moves would hardly leave a dent. Other times, he would chip off an entire section in a single blow. After a while, Dipper began to tire. So for his final move, the vines lifted the log high up in the air and dropped it. He proceeded to kick it in midair, sending it flying across the dirt lot.
Slow clapping began coming from the porch to Dipper's left. Dipper turned to look at who was clapping, and it was Stan.
"Looks like you're ready for some actual training, kid," the old man said. "After school, come directly here. I'll give you your second ever hero training." Dipper smiled wearily and gave a thumbs up.
"Dipper, we have school!" Mabel yelled, running outside. "I also got your backpack and a piece of toast so don't worry about breakfast!" she added, giving the backpack to Dipper.
"Thanks, Mabes," he replied, slinging the bag over his shoulder.
"Actually," Stan said, stopping the two before they started walking to school. "How about I drive you?" The twins looked at each other and nodded.
"Sure, why not?" Dipper said.
The drive to Gravity Falls High wasn't awkwardly silent like most car rides with distant relatives. Stan's old looking car, he called it the 'Stanmobile', went at a steady speed of 90 miles-per-hour (144,800 m/h) and was playing some heavy metal rock music from the 80s, or something like that.
The car screeched to a stop across the street from the school. Stan turned to look back at the twins. "Don't go picking fights, don't do drugs, you know the deal," he lectured.
"But Grunkle Stan, didn't you used to do drugs?" Mabel asked.
"I'm an adult, sweetie," he said. "Now go to school!"
The two got out of the car and walked up to the school, talking amongst themselves as they joined the crowd of tired teens walking into hell. Suddenly, two boys appeared on either side of Dipper.
"What the-" Dipper started.
"He's so cute, just like you said, Eightball!" said the shorter of the two.
"Teeth, you know I always have a good eye," said the taller one.
"E-Eh?" Dipper questioned, his face turning red.
"Aw, look at him blush! See, he's warming up to us already!" said Teeth.
"But he didn't even ask our names," Eight-Ball replied.
"Uhm, you literally said each other's names--" Mabel tried to interrupt.
"Mhm, a bit rude but it's fine, I'm sure he's just a tough cookie!" smiled Teeth.
"Yeah, you're probably right," Eight-Ball mused.
"What the--" Dipper started again before cutting himself off. "Get off!" He yelled, ripping away and spinning around to look at them. They got a few weird looks from the other kids, but they didn't glance twice once they realized it had to do with Eight-ball and Teeth.
"Yeah, you heard the kid," said a familiarly annoying voice belonging to none other than Bill Cipher.
"Oh, hey Bill!" said Teeth happily while Eightball just stood stiffly.
"Could you two stop harassing poor Dipn'Dots? It's not nice to annoy others like that when you don't even know them," Bill lectured.
"Sure thing boss!" Teeth said again, nudging Eightball.
"Yessir," Eightball mumbled, protectively grabbing Teeth's hand.
"Great!" Bill said cheerily. "Cmon Dipping' Sauce, Mabel! We have theater first!" Bill said, grabbing the twins by their arms and dragging them into the school. Dipper grumbled a bit.
"So Bill, how'd you know them?" Mabel asked.
"Oh, them? That's Eight-ball and Teeth, though I guess you already know their names... well they're part of my squad. They've been dating since the beginning of last year," Bill explained.
"Can you let go of me?" Dipper asked, annoyed. "I don't want to be dragged into theater. In fact, I'd rather not go to theater in the first place."
"But Dip, you promised!" Mabel whined as Bill let go of both of them. It was true though, Dipper had promised to do Theater with Mabel. Both of them had found their previous electives (home ec. and coding) to be boring (as they already had mastered those skills), so Mabel took the liberty of choosing Theater for both of them.
"Fine," Dipper mumbled, knowing that resistance was futile. And so, Dipper was unwillingly dragged to theater class.
As soon as the trio walked through the double doors to the school gym/auditorium, Mabel split off from the group.
"Hey Gideon!" she shouted, running up to greet the albino boy.
"Mabel!" he exclaimed, smiling and putting his hands on his hips.
Dipper rolled his eyes. "I don't like him," he said to no one in particular.
"Me neither. That guy is a fraud if you ask me," Bill commented.
Dipper perked up. "Say, Bill, you've known Gideon for a while, haven't you?"
"Yeah, he moved here in middle school. Gained popularity fast due to his telekinesis and stupid parlor tricks," Bill scoffed. "There's always been something off about him, though."
"Hm," Dipper hummed, narrowing his eyes at the albino.
"Oh! If I remember correctly, he has this really weird fetish--"
"Dude! I don't want to hear about that guy's interests!" Dipper said, pushing the blonde while laughing. Bill laughed too.
"Don't worry Dips, it's just a joke!" Bill said, glancing around the room. "Anyway, I'm gonna go sit with my group, you good by yourself?"
"Yeah, I'm good," Dipper said, sporting a half-smile. Bill Jerkwad Cipher was being nice to him for once, how odd. Were they becoming friends? It wouldn't be so bad to be Bill's friend, would it? He was a nice guy, even if he had a jerkwad cover.
"Great!" Bill said, running off. Dipper walked away too, going to sit down by Mabel and Gideon, who were talking happily.
Suddenly, Dipper's phone buzzed with a text. He checked the screen and it was from WIll.

I'll be by your locker, meet me during lunch
Dipper sent a quick reply.

Okay
Dipper put his phone away and leaned back on his hands. He wondered what Will wanted to talk about.
