"You got this Audrey, you got this."

I closed my mirror and pushed the visor up so I could get out of the car. I took one more deep breath and stepped out with my new Ralph Lauren purse. I don't usually spoil myself but I wanted to have a polished look for my internship.

I matched my black bag with a white button up and silky black dress pants and black close toed shoes. I left my black hair down, hoping that was okay. My hair just never looked great when it's up and today is not a day to make a bad impression.

I got a call from Mrs. Locke, the counselor but today I'm meeting the rest of the faculty and I'm very nervous.

Clutching my bag, I walked into the school trying my best to look confident. I approached the front desk receptionist. Her plaque read Lisa Smith. "Hi, I'm Audrey Perez, I'm interning for Mrs. Locke."

The lady smiled, "Go straight down this hall and her office is to your right."

I thanked her and walked down the hall where all of the faculty offices are. I turned to the right and saw a small waiting room similar to a doctors office waiting room and then her office just to the side. The door was opened so I knocked on the opened door.

"Mrs. Locke?" I asked.

An older woman with long beautiful gray hair stood up. She has gray hair but her face still looks pretty and youthful and her style is actually very modern. Her office was decorated nicely with lots of pictures, especially of her family and young children I am assuming are her grandkids.

"Oh hello, Audrey! Come in, sit!" She greeted, reaching over her desk to shake my hand. I shook her hand and sat down in one of the two chairs in front of her desk.

"How are you, dear? I'm so glad you're here!"

I laughed, happy she is nicer than I expected. "I'm doing very well! I'm happy to be here! How are you?"

"Oh dear, I'm tired," she said, sighing. She took the reading glasses that were on a necklace around her neck and put them on the bridge of her nose then looked at her computer. "There's lots of work to do since it's still the beginning of the school year. Getting classes adjusted for students, hiring and firing substitutes, making sure maintenance handles all of the requests, and still making time for the students to come in and talk as needed. I tell you, it's a lot of work. Good thing I'm hoping to retire after this school year."

I took a slow deep breath and nodded. I knew counseling wasn't just listening to students but I guess I kind of forgot how much you actually have to do. However, I didn't know Mrs. Locke was wanting to retire. I guess that was good for me. Maybe that meant she would have the principal hire me so she can leave. I needed to make a good impression on not only her but also the principal.

"Let me show you to your desk, honey." She said, taking the glasses back off and fell back around her neck. She stood up and I followed her out the door to a hallway across the hall from hers and saw a cute little office. Not as big as hers, but it was perfect for me. "You can decorate however you want."

She walked out of the office, "So, Mr. Vincent is the principal and his office is right across from here," she said pointing to his closed door. And as you saw I'm just on the other side of the hall. "You'll be assisting me, but he may come in and have you do small tasks occasionally when he needs the help."

I nodded and we walked back over to her office about 15 feet away. "Usually our interns would not have an office but Mr. Vincent no longer has an assistant so he's decided to give you the office as long as you are able to help the both of us while you're here."
