Alina's P.O.V.

I was never the type to be capable of grasping concepts of life quickly. Philosophy astonished me but I could never understand humans. The patterns I see in the world and history always leave me baffled. The way the world works. It leaves me stunned.

I'm a twenty-six-year-old hard working woman and I still am doubted or looked upon as a joke just because I am a woman. The workplace is a great yet horrible place. Horrible and great could only ever be interchangeable in these circumstances.

I sat at my desk nodding slightly not even listening to a word the man before me was saying.

Fucking prick, I thought.

I could understand humans in detail, what motivates them, what motivates actions they practice and body language. Stuff like that. But generally, I had not one single fucking clue about mankind.

Brandon Disick, the investor sitting in front of me is the type of man that makes his lover, or even human-interest, his bitch. It's clear. The way he's casually sitting on the arm of the leather chair, with no respect for me and my place in the law firm. My law firm.

How he's talking about himself, the egocentric and prideful tone in his statements makes me want to reach over and slap him.

I mentally rolled my eyes. God, I hate men like him.

Or maybe the part when he's pushing his thigh against mine, spreading my leg.

Just as he's about to start a new idea, I stomp my heel on his foot.

"Mr. Disick, thank you for your time, but you can find your way out of my building now," I state, finality and authorization laced in my tone.

He comes at me slowly, anger in his voice.

I chuckle, Jesus Christ I'll never have enough of men like him, will I?

I start calling security.

"Landon! Please, can you escort Mr. Disick our of my office." I snap towards Landon and he barges in coming exactly for Disick.

Landon is my bodyguard. It's honestly very necessary as I'm always harassed by men everywhere I go.

I just became the owner of Ox & Wolf Legal Partners and it's a private-sector law firm of about seven-hundred people.

I'm looking for an investor but I realize now that I've been foolish. I need to go look for one, not have them come to me. Only the scumbags will come to me.

I sigh and sit down, telling my assistant, Natalie to schedule a meeting between me and the best investor in Portland she can find.

I look down at the charm bracelet on my wrist and sigh. I miss my parents. Maybe the universe needed to pluck them from the world just like we pluck the most beautiful flowers from the ground.

After my parents died, Scott Kinsleigh and Pamela Kinsleigh adopted me into their family. We're kind of known around the country. They live in New York but I moved to Portland to work and have a fresh start. I love the Kinsleigh's. They have four biological sons and me. We're all grown adults now and the reason we're known is that the Kinsleigh's are billionaires. If you happen to use anything that has to do with power, you're associated with the Kinsleigh's. They run a multi-billion-company so if you happen to have electricity, you're tied to them.
