26 year old Pencil was digging around a large room on the 50th floor of a data server building. She was looking through papers that was left around the server's head computer. The head computer, called DATAMINE, was not letting go of his 300 year old saved files of the once prominent 'internet'.
Pencil didn't know much about the past, but after defeating the robots that once harbored the building, she wanted to take the opportunity to know more.
"Why should I tell you anything. I'm surprised you can read, let alone learn. I can assume you just want our next battle plan. You can re-ask me a million times but I will never load something to hurt my brothers," Datamine said. His sophisticated voice echoed through multiple speakers. His monitor with desk, mouse and keyboard attached, had a blank screen with a padlock bouncing around the corners on it.
"I can read.. and write.. color, draw-" Pencil started.
"And yet you have NO humans to teach you these things. I don't think raccoons know how to read, correct? Are there humans where do you come from?" Datamine asked.
"Nope, and nope," Pencil said. She picked up a paper and read it swiftly.
"Where are your parents?" Datamine asked her."Objects don't have parents dummy."
"You are not an object, you are a mammal!" Datamine didn't understand.
"Eh, was an object always an object," Pencil said. She looked up from her paper, "Show me... RedScare2."Before the computer could react it was already loading RedScare2 onto it's monitor. Pencil walked up to it and followed all of the changing and appearing graphics. It was the closest thing to magic since she had seen a S.E.S.C. zap her once wooden skin.
A video screen appeared in Datamine's monitor. It was a video of a man wearing a white long coat and other business-like attire. He had short black hair, and a really short black beard. Compared to the usual man he was a little bigger, but not like Pencil would know how tall men were supposed to be.
The video was informal, taken from what was possibly a supply closet. The camera was on a table facing up to capture the man."... I fear for my life now.." He paused, holding his mouth in a thoughtful, yet stressed way, "There has been a shooting in the school and it is all because I didn't check my damn email... Heh, hm uh.. For anyone watching, let me explain: Ball wanted me to have the aliens scare a bully of hers. They weren't around so I emailed them. Uh, when the aliens got to doing the prank, they shot the bully instead... All the students saw it, and now they're beginning to discover my true ties with them. Now everybody knows they're here and I just know they'll put my name to their crime.
I'm not entirely innocent, but what the aliens do, is not what I do. They are strange creatures really. I should of.. Hmmt.. They, they say the bully is haunting the school. A demon. I would dismiss this but I have seen-" The video shut down.
"Hey!" Pencil said at Datamine for interrupting.
"That's all there is. I don't have the whole world saved here ya know," Datamine said.
"..OK," Pencil thought for a moment before shrugging. She turned around and began to leave the room.
"Huh? You're just leaving now?" Datamine asked."I've been here long enough. I'm hungry, and I miss my baby. You should probably think of giving me better trash tomorrow or I'll think of burning this whole place down," Pencil said half sarcastically.
"Go ahead and kill me then. I really don't care..." Datamine said.
Pencil left the room.Datamine waited for a moment before playing some 1980s japanese future funk.
In the halls of the massive skyscraper the carpets were red, but rotting, and all of the wallpaper was dripping, and moldy. She ignored it all on her way to the stairwell. When she returned to the ground, a great city surrounded the single building she had visited; Yoyle City.
