Prologue

Sunlight danced across the room as the breeze swayed the curtains through the open window. Niall heard soft giggling behind him but when he turned, there was no one there. He heard her again and took a step so he could look down the hall. All the doors were open, and the shadows of the objects in the rooms moved as the breeze moved throughout the open windows of the little cottage. The sound of giggling came once again.

He walked down the hallway, taking a moment to look to his right as he passed the open door – nothing. He turned to his left as he passed that room – nothing. He entered the last room at the end of the hallway – their bedroom.

He walked in and blinked. When he opened his eyes, he found himself under the crisp white sheets, looking into the eyes of the girl he loved the most. She smiled at him and softly giggled as she pushed the sheets up so that they would quietly float back down to them, like a feather in the wind.

She was wearing a white spaghetti strapped shirt with white and denim blue striped shorts. He had on a white t-shirt and jersey shorts. He watched as the sheets finally landed upon them again and her face disappeared behind the fold that entered the space between them. He smiled as he heard her giggle once again.

This was how every morning in the summer began...
