Discussing guys they're crushing on is a ladies thing. It was happening in Via's room as well when she described how things went between her and Murphy at class that day. She showed her roommates his note book that she came with to copy down the notes for him. Rose, Murphy's twin was one of Via's roommate but Via didn't know that she was developing feelings for him too. Rose felt bad but she didn't want to show it to any of her roommates.
Murphy did not say anything about him and Via to his roommates that were all his friends too, because he was still not sure of what it was and he didn't want to cross lines he wouldn't be able to come back from. He waited for tomorrow so that he could go and talk to Martha, his longtime time friend from the combined school. Murphy respected Martha and took her as his sister. He told her all about it thinking that she will tell him what to do and how to do it.
Martha was very heart broken when she heard about all this, she had feelings for this guy since thier childhood and she has been waiting for him to make a move but now Murphy was telling her that he was falling for another girl and he doesn't know what to do. Martha tried to be strong but she just couldn't hold it. Her eyes were filled with tears as she turned and looked into Murphy's eyes. She didn't express her feelings to him but she just told him to make a right decision for his life as if it was hard for her to tell him what to do. Martha stood up and went to the hostel. Murphy was shocked, he didn't know why his friend was so sad and with eyes full of tears. He blamed himself for telling her all about it.
