Through my eye lids I could see the painful crimson that was seeping through the smooth glass of my window and through its purple vials. I didn't dare open my eyes. In fear, I turned over squinted them closed, and groaned.

"Get out of bed." My father said.

"Dad, I don't feel good."

"Don't be lazy, Adelina." I just turned on my stomach. He knew I didn't like it when he opened the curtains while I was sleeping. He also knew I didn't like when he used my full name. Why did he try to aggravate me so much?

My father walked out of the room. I just stayed there for a second. I felt sort of bad. My dad knew I loved him and I loved running with hem. I didn't want to ruin the rest of the day. Besides if I didn't go running now I would feel sluggish the rest of the day. So, I picked myself out of bed. I crawled to the window and shut closed the drapes. Walking to my dresser I put on my shorts and tank top, throwing my sweatshirt over it. I brushed my hair into a pony tail and took care of my teeth. Once I had my shoes on I was ready. I stepped out of my room.

I walked down the stairs to find that my mother had toast and eggs cooking."Want some, sweety?" she asked me merry for a morning. Like me, she wasn't much of an early riser.

"No, thanks though, Mom." I said. However I did grab my orange juice off the table and chugged until she told me it was hers.

"Sorry, Mom. Got to go." I toldher as I opened the door fighting a grin. I didn't do it on purpose, but I thought it was funny.

"Did you take long enough, Ads?" my dad asked. We were running along the beach and almost three miles from home by now. The water wasn’t that far away from us, barely a yard where we were running the west coast. We finished five miles away at least each day at the harbor. Sometimes we stayed in by this part of California and went shopping. Neither of us were much for shopping though.

"You know I caught up to you on your third mile, that's pretty good considering you had at least two when I walked out the door."

"Are you getting a little confident? Or just ahead of yourself Addy? Because you know you don't have to talk big to make yourself feel better. We're family." I just gave him a look rolling my eyes.

"You know I'm kidding, Addy." He said nudging me. I smiled almost wickedly.

"Ya but that's not going to stop me from kicking your butt on the last two miles." I told him. I sprinted past him then and took off. I could sprint two miles easily. Cross country did have its plusses, so did track, and soccer. Does dance count as a sport?

I was racing in front of him and he was trying to gain on me, but I had long enough legs that even though he was a foot taller than I was I could match his pace evenly. Not to mention my legs moved a little faster than the old man's.

We were off and I was in the lead. When I realized that I could see the harbor. I looked back to see where my father was. Just as I turned my head in front of me I tripped on something...or someone.

"Ow!" I heard from underneath me. I gasped. Please don't be someone I know. Oh God this was so embarrassing!

"Oh my gosh I didn't see you there. I'm so sorry!" I said. I got up feeling something wet on me. Of course, the guy just happened to be holding ice cream and, of course, it had smooshed all across the northern region of my torso. I didn't even know what to do about that. I just looked at my sweat-shirt. I really liked this one, it was this year's track shirt, and relatively new.

"Are you alright...?" He asked. I looked back down at him. I felt my face heat up. Did I look alright? Why didn't he say something before I had tripped right over him. Judging by the accuracy of where he was staring, and where the ice cream had fallen,he obviously wasn't blind. I crossed my arms to make sure he couldn’t keep staring at me.

“As much as I’d like to tell you that you don’t owe me a new shirt or a ‘Watch out!’ I’m afraid you already do. So, if you don’t mind...” I started walking away. I felt like a fish out of water, I could feel that my cheeks were still burning, but now I was angry and embarrassed I almost felt like crying. I knew that I wouldn’t though, or my dad would be all over that boy. I heard wet shorts behind me. When I looked back I realized that the guy was following me.

“Hey, I’m really sorry about that. I can actually get you a new shirt if you want.” I turned around. I was super mad at this guy. He was totally invading my privacy with his inconsiderate stares and now he wanted to apologize after that? I turned on my heel. Nearly crashing into him a second time. It would have helped if I knew he was so fast. Surprised, I took a step back. He stared down at me undisturbed not even looking away from me.

“Thanks for the offer, but this sweat-shirt is irreplaceable. As much as I’d like to have an apology, I’m a little busy. I was actually about to beat my dad again. So, if you don’t mind I have some things to finish up.” I said and I started walking toward the harbor where I could see my dad looking at me and trying not to laugh.

“Are you sure you’re okay? You know you owe me some stuff too,” he said. I turned back around now I wasn’t going to shadow my anger.

owe you something? Well you were the one who should’ve seen me coming. I mean I’m not invisible and you definitely aren’t blind. What were doing that you couldn’t have said ‘Lady watch where you step!’?” I was so mad that my voice had risen a couple octaves and I felt like I was going to cry now. I could feel tears stinging in the back of my eyes.

“I was reading a book. Not to mention I wasn’t finished with that ice cream,” he said looking back down at my sweat-shirt. I blushed again.

“Sorry about your ice cream.” I said and I began walking away again.

“I really am sorry.” I started doing a slow jog taking time to pull myself together while I caught up to my dad.

“You alright Addy? I saw that wicked spill.” I took off my sweatshirt while he was talking. Then I took the time to re-do my hair as it was falling out. “It looks like I win,” he said as I wrapped the clean side of my shirt around my waist. Luckily, it had warmed up while I was fighting with that boy. My tank-top wasn’t too cold this early.

I rolled my eyes and just shook my head. We started jogging back. This time we went behind the boy and his umbrella. There was a chick walking towards him that had just come out of the water. She was calling his name after we passed. Damen.
