'Uh, remind me why you're my friend again...'
I could literally hear my best friend say, with one brow up.
'Oh great. Just what I needed!' I quickly type on my phone.
Texting with your phone in Mr. Lewis's class is as bad as exchanging notes. Tinsley and I know this first hand, trust me. And now, he's looking at her so I know we're very busted and soooo getting detention. Not that I'll mind, but its going to be the third time this week. A girl has to keep her dignity." So Miss. Finn why don't you share what has you so upset with the rest of the class," Mr. Lewis says, giving me the stare.
I'm not even the one you're talking to.
"Uh, I can't Sir," Tinsley says, almost in a whisper.
"Then I'll just have to assist you, won't I?" He asks and snatches the phone from her hand. Trust me, that's far from asking.
"I need to go to the bathroom" I say, standing up.
"You'll go when I'm done Miss. Tremaine, so sit back down,"
Kill me now. Just kill me. I'm not one to pray for my chair to swallow me, but right now, I wish it does and never brings me back again.
"There is an impromptu meeting for all teachers now in the staff room. Please do well to attend," a voice sounded from the intercom.
My saving grace.
Then the bell. So the stars do love me.Tinsley and I quickly grab our things, get up, and head for our lockers.
"Uh, thanks for being so helpful Mr. Lewis," Tinsley says, grabbing her phone "I appreciate it," then we were out.
We walked a little distance down the hallway, taking time to catch our breaths....
"I don't know where I put my lip gloss". She says, searching her purse.
"Calm down. You probably left it in your locker,"
"Yh, I guess," she sighs.
Finally in front of my locker, I reach out to open it but a hand with effortlessly groomed fingernails makes sure to keep it closed.
"What, Tinsley? What?" I groan, turning to face her with my hands on my waist.
Standing in all her 5'4 glory, her white top and maroon pleated skirt gave her a good girl look, with her straight blond hair in a French braid and feet clad in white sandals. Her light brown eyes gave off a certain kind of innocence.....one that Tinsley Finn didn't possess. Not because she may be arrested for wearing very short skirts but because she was a good actress. She could make white look black and black look white. Pfft.
We've been friends for...well, since elementary school and I love her so much. Apart from my twin Thalia, she knows me inside out. But that fact hasn't really been in my favour since this morning."I love your skirt," I manage to say.
"You love all my skirts you onion head," she says with a slight smile. "But you can't make me forget what you told me. So you mean to stand there and tell me....," she whispers "David Fisher actually called you? That jerk!" she fumes.
"Hey Tins he's not worth it," I can tell she's fuming now so I'm glad I could easily spot Thalia in all her eye glory. She's lucky those eyes are cute.
We make our way towards our table and I cannot wait to eat.
We have our lunch at the quadrangle because its cool here and we get to watch all the drama here first. The fact that all the popular guys hang here is just a bonus. As we make our way towards our table, 'our' because as I said the popular ones hang here and no one really fancies changing spots.
Mason already spots us and whispers something in April's ear."Hey guys," I say in a sing song voice. "What are you guys gossiping about this time huh? And don't even lie, I saw you," I glare at Mason and April as I sit in between them. "Cmon, spill,"
"Oh, we just noticed how cute Tinsley looks today," April said with a shrug. "I love your skirt darling"
"I noticed, why take all the credit?" Mason mutters
"Well, you should've talked when you had the chance," I say bringing out my lunch of two beautiful sandwiches I made myself.
"Great, she brought lunch," Mason says, grabbing one of the sandwiches "I'll just have this one," he smiles, showing off his dimples.
"She'll kill you one day man," Lee says, trying to stifle a laugh after seeing my red face.
"Hey guys, something's up" April says, looking up from her salad and phone "David Fisher is back in town," she says, looking at me.
Now, everyone is looking at me.
"What?" I snap"You know?" Lee asks
"Yh, so?" l ask, one brow up
"He even called her," Tinsley adds
"Tinsley!" I cannot believe this right now
"Am I the only one who fails to see why this is such a big deal?" Thali asks, looking up from her phone for the first time
"You're definitely not. Tinsley has been fussing over it since morning and nearly landed us in detention," I mumble, taking a big chunk out of my sandwich.
"Nearly?" Mason scoffed. "That's a first,"
"Look, Tremaine twins," Lee finally spoke up "David Fisher is back after ridding your living room of valuables, telling you to your face that you meant nothing to him the whole year you dated, and then left town after telling you all the other girls he cheated on you with," he said, looking at me "And it's no big deal he's back? Gimme a break Velvet.
Not only does Lee not always talk this way, but this is the first time David's talk is coming up like this and it's being thrown in my face.
"Yes, Lee. It's a big deal and when I saw it was him calling I would've lost it. But I didn't. I couldn't. Because no matter how angry I still am, it won't change what he did. Nothing can," I say silently.
"I'll see you at home Thalia," I say, putting the rest of my sandwich in Mason's plate and standing up. I would've laughed at the look on his face if I wasn't so hurt.
