Soulmate au

Ummmmm 1. Idk when all of their birthdays are and I changed them so this fic would work the way that I wanted it too. 2. Apparently, Alejandro and Vic broke up, but its a small part of this fic and I don't want to change it oops. 3. The picture up above is their soulmate mark and I thought of it because Kairi's name has to do with the ocean and Mattia's name means "gift from god". Anyway, enjoy!!! 

When you turn 18, a tattoo appears on your body. It can appear anywhere and look like anything. And only one other person has the same tattoo as you, this person is your soulmate. Almost everyone in the world has a soulmate, of course, there have been some anomalies where more than two people have the same tattoo or some people never get them in the first place, but the chances of that happening are slim to none.

Kairi's pov

At the end of summer, Mattia got his tattoo. It was an open ocean and the clouds were parting above it to look like the heavens were shining down on the water. It appeared on the middle of his back so after school, we all went to his house and he showed it to us. For the next week, he could not stop talking about it or how he hoped his soulmate was some tall, hot, Italian chick. All of us were annoyed by it except Alejandro, who was the only other guy in the group who also had a tattoo.

Overtime the soulmate talk died down until Alejandro found Vic, his soulmate. It was during the first week of our senior year when he came running up to us screaming about how the girl next to him in his math class had the same tattoo on her right hand. We all congratulated him and everything went back to normal until someone else got their mark. Soon everyone had theirs.

I was the last to get mine and my 18th birthday was at the end of the school year. On the morning of my birthday, I woke up to take a shower before school started. I never really cared much about soulmate marks and didn't think to check for mine until I was getting undressed and saw a black smudge on my back. It was in such an awkward place that I had to take a picture of my back to be able to see it. When I looked at the photo my stomach dropped and my phone slipped out of my hand onto the floor.

I had the exact same tattoo as Mattia in the exact same spot.

It took me a whole minute before I was able to pick my phone back up and look at the picture again. I felt sick to my stomach. I had no problem with having Mattia as a soulmate, he is one of my best friends and I know he is good looking. I was happy at the thought of spending the rest of my life with him. What I was worried about was Mattia's reaction.

He's expecting his dream girl, not his best friend. I'm literally the exact opposite of what he wants.

It took me a while before I was able to move again, but the last thing I wanted to do was go to school and face Mattia. I decided not to take a shower and went back to my room, lying down in my bed and staring at the wall. At some point, my mom came in wondering why I hadn't gone to school yet, but luckily she accepted my excuse of not feeling well and I was able to stay home for the day.

It was around lunchtime when my phone started blowing up with my friends asking me where I was. I responded to all of them saying I was sick, except Mattia. I tried my best to send a text, but I couldn't even type a single letter without freaking out. In the end, I gave up and spent the rest of the day sleeping and watching Netflix 

When I woke up the next morning I felt normal until I remembered why I didn't want to go to school. I thought about pretending to be sick again, but I knew my mom wouldn't buy it and the further I got behind in my schoolwork, the harder it would be to catch up.

I took my time getting ready because I was dreading seeing Mattia, but I could only stall for so long because I had to make sure my sister got to school on time. After I dropped her off, I decided to take a longer route to school hoping that I would get there late and be able to avoid my soulmate for a little while longer.
