pov. third.
the sun is already setting when doja makes it back to the locker room, and she knows she's been out too long again. practice is long over, everyone else must have left a while ago already. thankfully the door opens when she tries to push. it's not exactly fun to leave without her things, and even less fun to track down one of her coaches who has a key and make them open up the door for her. that usually involves a lot of lecturing afterwards.
it's quiet inside, but the locker room isn't empty. coach rico is sitting on one of the benches, typing away on her phone. doja thinks maybe she can just grab her stuff real quick and make a quiet run for it without the coach noticing, but the plan fails as soon as she takes one step inside.
"why are you so late?" rico says, without even looking up from her phone.
"sorry." doja's says as she strolls in and opens her locker to pull out her regular clothes.
that makes rico turn her phone off and turn towards doja, which makes doja's heart start beating excitedly at having her full attention now.
"you need to be more responsible," rico says as she gets up and walks over to doja, "you know you need to be back when practice ends. it's incredibly rude to make your coach wait for you just to lock the door everyday."
"sorry." she repeats
"i just keep losing track of time when i'm walking back from the fields."
she's a little more sincere now that rico is truly paying attention, and even starts stripping herself to communicate she'll hurry up and get done to be less of an annoyance to her coach.
