Virgil

"Mom! I'm home! And I've brought you a new illegitimate son!" I yell after walking into my house with D, who gives me an odd look from underneath his hood when I say 'new illegitimate son'. "It's a joke between me and my mom." is the only explanation I give.

Mom comes out of the kitchen covered in flour. D hides in his hood even more. "Oh! New child! Hello! I'm Virgil's mom, but you can just call me 'Patty'!" D mumbles out a greeting back.

"We're gonna work on a project in my room". Mom gives me a suspicious look, but just tells me to leave the door open. I nod and guide D to my room.

"Um.. Yeah, so it's fairly small, but this is it.." I set my bag down on my bed, watching as D just looks around and nods.

Nagini and Aragog catch his eye though. "You have a snake and a tarantula?" "Mhm. Nagini and Aragog. Yes those are references to Harry Potter."

I'm not entirely sure if he heard me since he's so fascinated by any movement the Nagini makes. She sticks out her tongue, smelling her tank and maybe D, and D just bleps at her. That is freaking adorable and I say that in the most platonic way possible.

"Would you like to hold her?" He looks like a child on Christmas morning, I swear. "Really?" I nod, mentioning that I usually take Nagini out of her tank around now anyways (I don't mention the fact that I do it because she's basically my emotional support snake).

I walk over and carefully get Nagini out of her tank. D acts as if I'm handing him the Nobel Prize, but I understand his love of snakes. Nagini makes herself comfortable around his neck, positioning herself so that she's facing the way that D is.

"Want to get some snacks from downstairs before we start?" I ask. He nods then follows me downstairs, with Nagini, to the kitchen. I consult with D about each food or drink that I grab until I have two sodas each and thing of Chips Ahoy! cookies.

"Virgil! What did I say about keeping Nagini upstairs?" I turn around to see my mom looking at D, Nagini and I. D panics and covers the left side of his face with his arms since he had taken his hood off when we were upstairs and I'm guessing that he isn't ready to show off his face to my mom. Which is fair.

Mom mode takes over when she sees D panicking though. "Oh my, what's wrong? Are you alright?" she asks him while going to comfort him, but he just pulls away and somehow manages to run up the stairs.

"Give him some time, Mom. He.. He'll open up about it when he's ready to." I reassure. Mom nods.

I don't understand why D was so open about his scars with me and so scared with my mom though.
