Ka'Tana woke up with a loud BOOM. She jolted her head up at the noise that seemed to rip her ears. It was quite painful for a noise. Looking around for the noise's creator she noticed that Ebena was gone. Kay was till under Ka'Tanas grip. She figured that she was too afraid to look around by herself for the noise that she waited for Ka'Tana to get up, you could tell by the look on her face.
"Kat, did you hear that?" Kay whispered.
"Yeah, what was that?" Ka'Tana replied, slightly scared herself.
Before Kay could reply a howl was heard.
"Ebena is in trouble! Cmon get up!" Kay yelped, launching Kat off of her side. Kay was running in the direction of the howl as fast as she could, not even waiting for Kat to catch up. Ka'Tana pushed herself up and groaned, now her ribs hurt from Kay pushing her to the side. She reached over and grabbed the bruised bones and huffed hesitantly before running off after Ebena. Running at full speed she could see Briggs darting through the trees beside her, she could see his one eye looking at her, but she didn't look back. Suddenly Obi came into view and blocked off Briggs and Ka'Tana.
"Stop! The humans have some strange contraption and if you continue forward we'll all die!" He snarled. Briggs didn't stop though, he jumped over Obi, impressively and continued his way to Ebena. Ka'Tana tried to dodge the gray wolf until he leaped in front of her and bared his teeth. "Can't you hear you dumb human scrap!"
"Well in your luck I'll get hit too," Ka'Tana snickered.
You could see Obi's eyes looking up, considering the fate, then he smiled and let her pass. Ka'Tana glared at him for a second and ran forward, following the path Briggs left behind him. Suddenly she stopped the the edge of the alps, looking before the wide valley. It was beautiful in the morning. You could see the geese and the lakes. It was beautiful until she saw a tribe of humans, maybe 5 or 6 of them. And Ebena, Kay, and Bongi all cowering behind Briggs.
Ka'Tana jumped from rock to rock until he reached the bottom of the mountain, then she began to run to her pack until she heard Ebena say, "That human, he's wearing my father's fur."Suddenly Ka'Tana had remembered that her father wore a wolf's skin. She looked to the human that held a strange type of bow contraption. Looking up she saw that man she hoped not to see for the rest of her days. Her father. His expression was anger, and she had noticed he looked much different than she had last seen him. He had scars on his face and age has caught on to him. And he was holding that bow up, aiming to Briggs who was eagerly in front of the three wolves, protecting them. She yelled out the only English word she could think of, "daddy!"
Suddenly a thud was heard, it was her father dropping the bow. Her pack and the tribe looked at her in surprise. Ka'Tana looked at her father, and her father looked at her. Suddenly it was like a race between Briggs and her father, the pack ran her way and so did her father, though the chief kept tripping with age and yelled, "no! Please don't take my daughter! No!"
Briggs caught up to her and put his snout under her legs and flipped her up onto his back. She gripped his shoulder fur so she wouldn't fall off and tightened her heels on his hips and they run up the mountain, Ka'Tana didn't want to look back, and regretted it. She saw her father on his knees crying for her. Ka'Tana felt a tear crawling down her face but she quickly wiped it away, remaining strong for her pack. Her head fell onto Briggen's back and she rested like that as he ran through the trees. She could hear his quick heart beat and she closed her eyes to wash away the memory of the man who cried for her."Wake up!" Ebena growled in her face. It was now day and she was on the cold dirt floor of the den. Ka'Tana knew exactly what Ebena was angry for, and she began backing up until she hit Bongi in the chest with her head. She looked around and all of the wolves surrounded her.
"You said you didn't have a father or mother! Or family! But in reality you hid it from us because your father was the one who killed my father! And not just my father, our leader! How could you? And we were going to accept you as one of us.you are A liar," she snarled, so ready to bite off her head, but she held back. Ka'Tana couldn't speak, she was too shocked to get any words out.
"You did tell us that your parents had died. One of our rules as a pack is you mustn't lie," Briggs stated.
"Let's bite off her head!" Obi snarled with anticipation.
"No! She was little when she joined, at the time she didn't know our rules. We all know Kat and she wouldn't do this to us on purpose," Bongi defended.
"And you know that since her pap is alive, you are no longer considered her father. You don't have to defend her anymore, Bongi," Ebena snarled.
"We should return her to her real family," Briggs mentioned sincerely.
"No!" I screamed. "You are MY family and I belong here! I ran away from home, I cannot go back. You guys know me, I don't lie. I didn't know my dad killed the leader before Briggs, all I remember is he wore a wolf skin and I never approved of it so he would take it off around me. I was an outcast, I knew little English, and now that I'm 14 I'm far behind with my English. Take me back now? humph, I'd rather die."
Then all listened intently until Obi spoke, "alright, sweet dreams." Then he sprung forward snarling and spitting until Briggs knocked him right into his shoulder with his head and barked, "we will not kill her, Obi. Watch where you stand in this conference." Briggs bent over and closed his jaws on Obi's muzzle, Obi whimpered and curled his tail in. Briggs nodded and released his maw and began walking slowly over to Ka'Tana before collapsing.
"Briggen!" Ebena roared before running over to him. He slowly pushed himself up.
"I'm fine Ebena," he grumbled. Ka'Tana looked down at his back leg and spotted a large gash.
How could I not have noticed? Ka'Tana thought to herself. She had noticed he was limping while she was on his back, but the events were going so fast she didn't think much of it.
"I knew I smelled blood, thought it was just fresh kill!" Ebena snapped back. Looking down at the gash Ka'Tana noticed that it didn't look right.
"It looks infected," Ka'Tana said.
Ebena was ready to fire an insult back at Ka'Tana but closed her mouth before she could and turned back to Briggs. "I'll gather the supplies, you sit down and calm yourself."
Ka'Tana looked down at Briggs who calmly sat down as if nothing was wrong. Her lip began to quiver, two faults were made upon her doing. First her mother now her leader. She dropped onto her knees and wrapped her arms around Briggs and whispered, "I'm sorry."
Ka'Tana felt a sharp pain in her upper arm and she quickly released to find that Briggs was biting her arm, he growled and said, "I don't need pity, human."
Sometimes Ka'Tana is confused on his personality, it changes every so often like he has multiple options of personalities for each week, which would be cool. Ka'Tana stood up and rubbed her arm and started out of the den disappointedly, but was stopped by Kay who ran in front of her and halted the human.
"Where are you going, Kat?"
"I'm just going to go think about stuff."
"What? No! You can't leave now, you can think here."
"I'd rather think alone."
"Ok.." Kay scooted out of her way and dropped her tail along with her ears. "Okay..."
Ka'Tana walked out of view from the den.
