Chapter 2
The five thousand two hundred and fifty students sat together in the space shuttle. It was more like laying down than sitting since the shuttle was vertical. The students were very excited and were discussing the new discoveries and opportunities that they could find on the new planets. An American student and her friend discussed the possible new elements that they could find in their destination. A group of five friends chatted on about the new design for a form of transportation. Everyone was talking "new." The new inventions, the new discoveries, the new opportunities were all about to become a new reality.
There were safety demonstrations that were like the ones they have on airlines except tailored for space flight. The moment was almost upon them. The pilot counted down from ten. Even though it was just ten seconds, each one stretched to an hour with the almost palpable excitement. "Ten...Nine...Eight..." The kids all had baited breath. "Seven...Six...Five...Four..." The agony of waiting was showing on even the pilot's face "Three...Two...ONE!!!" The rear thrusters propelled the behemoth skywards. At first it didn't move but then the potential energy turned to kinetic and all of them were pushed into their seats. They were off and the best of the best were speeding to a new home.
