Chapter 4

"Wifey I'm going to take your blood sample," Yunlan said.

Shenwei looks surprised.

"I think the colds may have left you with a low grade of infection. I'd like to track it down so we can treat it" Yunlan continued.

"Good Idea...want me to help!" Yezun said behind him.

"You don't have to yezun!! I'm not a kid anymore" Shenwei said though he's a little bit nervous.

Zhao yunlan deftly inserted the needle into a vein in his arms.he drew up the plunger slowly. filling the glass tube with bright red blood. He injected the blood into a small specimen vial and seal it.

A dozen times Zhao yunlan looked at the message he had found on his desk Dr.Wang call.
.Dr.Wang is a hematologist and a friend. He gave her the blood sample for her to test.
It was already the evening before the two doctors could make contact.

"Wang what did you find?" Yunlan asked.

"Zhao, could you come down to my love for a minute" Wang suggested.

"Of course right away.." Yunlan said.

Zhao yunlan race down three flights of stairs.he  was breathless when he burst in Wang's lab.

"Wang, what is it? He demanded.

" Zhao I don't know what this patient is seeing you for.but I would consider this the more serious problem. I suggest we take a bone marrow sample and-"Wang didn't finish.

"Bone marrow sample? Yunlan interrupted.

" Yes. It's clearly indicated by the abnormal blasts in the blood smear-" Wang stops her words when he saw Yunlan pale face...

"Dr.Zhao, what's the matter with you?.... Zhao sit down....are you alright?" Aware that his friend has turned pale and damp as well.
Zhao yunlan nodded he breathed slowly but shallowly try to regain control.

" Wang., it's not a patient." Zhao yunlan soft voice.

"Then who?" Wang is confused.

"Shenwei.." Yunlan whisper.

'0h my God!" Wang exclaimed.

"Tell me everything" Yunlan insisted.

" findings like these demands a bone marrow sample for biopsy, so we can make a definitive diagnosis," Wang said.

"What's your educated guess? Yunlan ask.

" Leukaemia,....I'm sorry Zhao, "
Dr.Wang  said.

Zhao yunlan nodded.

"Have him in...let's take the marrow sample. Then we'll know a good deal more." Wang said.

"Zhao... These days the percentage is much better than they ever were. when I first started in--" Wang interrupted in Yunlan exploding.

" Don't quote me percentage!! I am only interested in-" he said no more and walk out the lab.

Wang thinks twice what she should do now. finally, he calls Ling.

Ling jing found Yunlan in his office. Staring out the window in the evening darkness. He did not respond to the sound of the door being opened.

"Yunlan, Wang just told me." Ling began. No response.

"Yunlan I know it's like a knife in the heart. and nothing I might say that can change it.' Ling added.

Yunlan remained silent...

" I will take him tomorrow," Yunlan said.

"What will you tell him when you bring him in for a bone marrow biopsy?" Ling asked.

" As little as possible..."
" He won't know the truth... Until I can keep it from him."Yunlan weakly said.

"But that's not-" Ling did not finish his words when Yunlan explodes.

" and don't argue with me Ling his my wife!! Can you understand that?! No, I guess you can't understand!!"yunlan frustrated.

"I have my sister and mother die in front of me...because of the bomb explosion... it must be not the same case but it was the same pain," Long said.
" I'm sorry Ling, forgive me..." Yunlan said.

" I forgive you...even before you asked .....Nor do I Blame you
...there is no torment worse than seeing love ones facing death and being unable to prevent it..." Something in Ling's voice forces Zhao to look into his eyes.

" my boy, do tell your wifey...gently tonight if you can. I will arrange his bone marrow biopsy before this weekend" Ling said to the man than he trait-like his son.
