6.
I was putting away all my new clothes, when I heard the men's voices downstairs. It was almost dinner time, and I asked if I could prepare a meal. Brody teased me for asking, but told me to go ahead. I had made a huge pot of chile, and was letting it heat up while I went through my new items. Quickly hiding the new bras and underwear Willow had snuck in, and putting my old clothes in my duffle under the bed for safekeeping I went barefoot down stairs.
Just as I entered the kitchen, the door slammed and a big shouldered man left. Standing there was Ian and Brody, looking very unhappy. "Is everything okay?" Worried I stepped toward them but was distracted by the sound of the large engine starting in the driveway.
Looking outside the large kitchen windows, I noticed Ken's patrol SUV parked under the poll barn. Ken stood in the driveway, leaning against his truck. He wasn't wearing his uniform, but instead sported a pair of wrangler jeans like the ones his brothers wear and what looked like an old sports tee. A baseball cap was turned backwards and his square toe boots were outlined by the shadow the sun gave as it was going down.
"Bella, come here Doll."
"Hm?" Still distracted, I watched as Ken seemed to be talking to someone on the other side of the truck.
"You don't need to be looking out there." Brody spoke again, this time stepping towards me but it was too late.
I watched as the tall, busty platinum blonde came bouncing around the truck. My jaw dropped as she swayed her hips, showing off her long legs in her tight jeans and tall boots. Was this Kens reason for not wanting me? Was he already taken?
"Who's that?" I whispered, my voice lost.
Brody turned me around, just as I watched the woman throw her arms around Kens handsome figure.
"Let's eat. You have prepared a wonderful meal." Ian spoke loudly, trying to gain my attention. I watched as he took the plate away from the table only leaving three placemats. Ken wouldn't be joining us.
A thick ball was in my throat, my face was twisted in pain as I fought not to cry. The sound of a pick up truck was so loud, it was over bearing as I listened to it leave the ranch.
Taking a seat, I slowly found my voice. "You mentioned earlier on our ride into town that we could see if Wes is available to talk tonight?"
Ian nodded firmly, scooping a good amount of chile into my bowl. "We will call after you have eaten."
I nodded, closing my eyes as we all silently said grace. Once we finished our meal, Brody advised I go get some comfy clothes on before we call Wes. The men cleaned up dinner, and I avoided there stares. I didn't want them angry at their brother, but I knew they were. My day with both men had been so amazing, I was so upset that it had to end like this. As I washed my face, and put on a pair of plaid pajama shorts and one of my new tee shirts. After throwing my hair up in a ponytail, I made my way back downstairs.
Without speaking, Ian handed me my cell phone and we went to living room.Curling up on the couch, I felt Brody sit beside , pulling me onto his lap. Ian sat in the chair across from us, a long neck bottle in his hand. With shaky fingers I dialed the number and waited patiently for Wes to answer.
Brody had his hands running up and down my sides, trying to relax me. Yet I could feel the tears begin to fall and I started shaking. Ken was with another woman. He didn't want me, nor trust me. I had to tell Wes and he was going to be so disappointed. I was not the girl for them like he thought.
"Bella." His voice came on the other end, and although it was a little scratchy due to signal issues I found myself sobbing.
"Wes.." I cried.
