What happened? Why is everything black? Wait, what’s that white light? I let my feet walk me over to the white light
“Lily,” I hear a voice say my name
“Lily, help me” the voice repeated again. This time it sounded so close I turned around.
“Lily,” he said by now I was tearing up
“T-Tyler?” I asked scared, my eyes widening in shock.
“I love you, please don’t forget that,” he said placing a hand on my shoulder. How is this possible?
“You will be happy again. You will find someone you loved more then you loved me,” he said into my ear. “You will be happy again,” he repeated again before he floated off into the light
“But I can’t!” I screamed. “I can’t let go!” By now, he was already gone.
This is a dream, I thought to myself. I’m going to wake up and none of this ever happened. It was just a bad dream.
“Is she going to be okay?” I hear a voice say
“Yea she’s going to be fine,” I heard another voice say
“LILY, WAKE UP!” I heard a younger voice yell
I tried to open my eyes, but I couldn’t. It was like they were glued shut.
“Please wake up,” I hear a male voice say
I tried to move my eyes again but it wouldn’t work so I moved my fingers.
“Hunter, did you see that?” I heard a little girl say who, by the sound of it, was my little sister.
“See what?” He asked, sounding hopeful.
“Her fingers they twitched!” She replied in excitement. I moved my fingers again.
“Nurse, she’s moving!” I hear my brother yell. I hear the door open I wriggle my fingers again.
“Why are her eyes still closed?” He asked, worry laced in his voice.
“There’s nothing to worry about. Sometimes they’re awake but their bodies are still asleep. She can hear you though,” she replied “Her eyes just aren’t wanting to open,” she continued.
“Oh, okay,” my brother replied dumbfounded. He was never very clever or smart. I giggled at the thought.
“She giggled!” My sister yelled again. I slowly began to try and open my eyes once more. This time I saw three faces looking at me.
“Hello, sweetie. Are you feeling okay?” the nurse asked.
“Um, yeah. Just a bit of a headache. What happened?” I asked rubbing my head and my eyes.
Looking around the room I notice the one person missing. The one person I wanted to see.
“Where’s Tyler?” I asked. They all looked down.
“He died, Lily.” Hunter replied. I felt tear drops in my eyes. That wasn’t a dream. It was reality and I have to live with it.
“It’s okay, Lilyi,” Sky said she was only six but she was the cutest little thing. Hunter was just one year older than me. Trust me, he doesn’t let me forget about him being older.
“When can I leave?” I asked the nurse, my voice croaky.
“Soon. We need to get you to sign a few things and change clothes. Then you’re ready to go,” she replied with a slight smile.
“Here. Go get ready.” Hunter said, giving me a bag full of clothes.
I walked into the bathroom and locked the door. I took off the itchy robe and put my own clothes on. I pulled my knotty hair into a messy bun. I don’t even bother with makeup, I’ll just end up crying again. I walk back out to see Sky sitting on a chair with her eyes held open, trying not to fall asleep.
“Waiting for me?” I ask. She stands up from her chair in surprise and simply nods her head.
“Come on then. Where’s Hunter?” I ask.
“Out there,” she responded, quite happily pointing to the door. She ran towards the hallway.
“Lead the way,” I reply with a small laugh, following her out the door to Hunter who was smiling back at me.
I know what you’re thinking; ‘You lost your boyfriend, the one you love! How can you be happy?!’ Well, you see, I am upset inside, but Tyler would want me to be happy. He would want me to be out with friends and enjoying my life. He taught me to try and smile at the saddest of times.
But I can’t help but feel for the part of my heart that’s missing.
A week later was the funeral. It was beautiful, yet depressing. I made my speech and I truly meant it. I’m not going to forget, but I don’t want to remember that it hurts too much.
