the next day at school, mark walked in bearing a gift.

he was earlier than usual, since he always came right when the bell sounded to get to class, but today it was because he had to find donghyuck. the boy didn't really know where his locker was at or anything of the sort, so he began just walking along the hallways trying to find him.

a short while after, mark finally saw the familiar, small boy looking through a few folders in his locker. he walked up to him, tapping his shoulder very gently with his free hand in order to not startle him.

but that didn't seem to work, since the younger jumped slightly at the touch, but still turned around. the two met eyes, and mark noticed how it seemed like donghyuck had just stopped crying. his eyes were puffy, slightly red, and there was just the saddest frown on his face. mark lowered his hand, forgetting he had something for the younger in the first place.

"what's wrong?" he asked, looking at donghyuck's face until in contorted into a look so sharp that if looks could kill he would certainly be dead by now. the younger took mark's wrist and next thing you know, he was being dragged all the way to the park a few blocks away from the school.

donghyuck said nothing.

mark was so confused.

but, he just let the boy take him wherever he was going without much of a struggle. there was drizzling rain about the city, the freezing winds so strong that they water droplets came down the way the wind was blowing. and while mark was dressed in a thin hoodie with a large jacket on top, donghyuck was in just a t-shirt.

"you should've worn my jacket.. it's cold today." mark said, though donghyuck just gave him that same look again. the two were completely silent, until the younger softened his gaze. "... what's that?"

donghyuck's voice was silent, like he had no more energy to be upset, like he was drained from everything. mark looked down at the black, large, shiny gift bag he was still holding, and held it out towards the younger. "this is for you," mark said quietly. "well.. for you and minki." donghyuck rubbed his eyes, not taking the bag even though he knew mark was trying to give it to him. "... and why were you giving it to me in school?" he asked, voice still barely above a whisper. when donghyuck first saw the bag, since it was pretty full, he could see that there were a few items of baby clothing at the top of everything else. that made the boy quick to become afraid again, afraid someone might overhear or ask him who all that stuff was for. he knew he could easily say it was for his baby cousin or something and save himself all the trouble, but those little lies never popped up in his mind at the right times. he was really just always scared.

yet now that donghyuck could see a little bit more of what was inside the bag and how sweet it was for mark to do this, the action truthfully warmed his heart.

he didn't know if it was the absolute whirl of up and down emotions he had been experiencing this morning, but this definitely sent him over what he could handle. before donghyuck even knew it, he was breaking down, again, right in front of mark. he boy kept his head low, not even having the energy to wipe his tears away. the older's eyes widened slightly as he realized donghyuck was crying, to which he set the bag down and placed his hands ever so delicately on his waist. he pulled the boy into his body, covering him the best he could with his bigger jacket so he wouldn't be cold or get wet with the light rain. the smaller boy didn't move, just cried quietly as mark rubbed his back in a soothing manner.
