Luke is standing on stage, Michael on his left and Calum on his right, and Ashton behind him, attempting to do what Calum suggested; play for her. He takes a deep breath, you can do it, this is the last song tonight, he tells himself. That might have helped if it wasn’t for the fact that the song was Amnesia. He’s fine the whole time Calum is singing the first verse, and he thinks he’ll be okay for the rest of the song, but that’s before he starts singing the chorus.

I remember the day you told me you were leaving

I remember the make up running down your face,

And the dreams you left behind you didn’t need them,

Like every single wish we ever made,

I wish that I could wake up with amnesia,

And forget about the stupid little things,

Like the way it felt to fall asleep next to you,

And the memories I never can escape,

Because I’m not fine at all” He sings it with all his heart, the only thing he can think about being Sophia, and the fact the song describes exactly how he feels right now. Except he doesn’t think that he’d want to forget her, because then he’d be forgetting his entire world; his everything. He takes another deep breath as Calum sings the next verse, fighting back any signs of tears until the show is over and the lights go down.

He notices Calum giving him a sympathetic look out of the corner of his eye and Michael making a weird face in an attempt to make him smile. He has to admit Mike’s face does succeed in making him smile, because how can you not smile when a bright blue haired guy is making a weird face at you?

It’s his turn to sing again, the last few lines of the song,

“Because I’m not fine at all

No, I’m really not fine at all

Tell me this is just a dream,

Because I’m really not fine at all.” The four of them thank the audience, and walk offstage, cheering and high-fiving each other, full of adrenaline still from all the cheers of the crowd.

Luke has all but forgotten what had been bothering him a second ago, until he picks up his phone and see the words, “1 Missed Call From: Soph and underneath it: “1 New Voicemail”. His heart rate speeds up all of the sudden, and he quickly dials his voicemail and brings the phone to his ear. He immediately hears her voice, a welcome sound, even if the words she was saying weren’t as welcome.

“Hi Luke. I got your message…well actually I got all of your messages,” She chuckles slightly, “I just want to tell you that you’re wrong; I don’t deserve you. You’re too great of a guy for me, Luke. You deserve better than me; you deserve a girl who can stay with you instead of thinking only of herself. I don’t deserve all of your attention, or your sweet words. Find someone who will treat you better than I did, Luke, don’t waste your time on a bitch like me. Also, you’re never an asshole, don’t ever call yourself that again, Luke Robert Hemmings. If you want to know the honest truth, although you did always seem to care a lot about your band, to me it seemed like you cared about me more than anything. Thank you for caring. You always did treat me like your princess. I would never trade anything for that. I want you to know that you never did even one thing wrong; you did everything right. You probably don’t want to keep listening to me going on and on forever so I’m going to end this message soon, but first I want to sing to you. You always told me that you loved my voice, so here goes,” She takes a shaky breath before continuing, in her beautiful singing voice, “I hope you know, I hope you know,

That this has nothing to do with you,

It's personal, myself and I
We've got some straightenin' out to do
And I'm gonna miss you like a child misses their blanket
But I've got to get a move on with my life
It's time to be a big girl now
And big girls don't cry”
Her voice cracks on the last word, and she takes another deep breath, “I hope you don’t think it’s weird that I sang a Fergie song,” She laughs a little again, and then continues, “There’s one more that I want to sing for you, and then I’ll go… When I close my eyes and try to sleep
I fall apart, I'm fighting hard to breathe
You're the reason, the only reason
Even though my dizzy head is numb,
I swear my heart is never giving up
You're the reason, the only reason... I had to sing one of your songs, because what kind of 5SOS fan would I be if I didn’t? This has been the longest voicemail ever, I’ll leave you alone now. I hope this explains some things. Bye Luke.”
And then the line clicks and the annoying computerized voice starts going on about press this number if you want to delete this message, press this number to save it, and so on. Luke saves the message and walks back into the dressing room where the others are changing into less sweaty clothes, tears slowly running down his cheeks.

He thought it was cute how she remembered about how he’d told her he loved hearing her sing. It had taken him so long to convince her to sing in front of him, and even after he told her how good she sounded, she’d only ever sing in front of him, when they were alone and he was playing songs on his guitar.

“Luke, you okay?” Michael asks as Luke enters the room, taking off his sweaty t-shirt and slipping on a clean one.

“I-I’m fine,” Luke says with a sniffle.

“We all know that that’s a lie,” Ashton says, giving Luke a look.

“It’s Sophia, isn’t it?” Calum asks carefully.

“She finally called me back,” Luke says simply.

“Look, I know you miss her and you still have feelings for her, and you should do something about it,” Michael starts. Oh Michael, Luke thinks to himself, “feelings” is the understatement of the century.

“Write her a song or a letter, or both,” Ashton completes his thought.

“That’s a good idea,” Luke says thoughtfully.

What does he have to lose?

Nothing, now that he’s already lost Sophia.
