What IS That Thing?

Zyrite was wounded. In fact, he was in more pain than he had ever felt in his life. They say ignorance is bliss, and considering he had felt better when he was friendless in Neon 11 than when he was harshly rejected in Neon 18, he decided "they" were right. Tears chilled his face as he exited the ice cream shop and braved the wintry wind for about 5 meters. Then he flipped over, sobbing in anguish and agitated by the wails of the bullet trains.

...

He spent 6 pitiful hours in this state before finally collecting himself. It was a wonder that anyone could cry for so long, then stop so suddenly. "Come on, Zee," he mumbled weakly, "Get yourself together. Your desire, your mission, your purpose... it's to destroy all of them. Destroy all the rebels." As he continued to chant this line, something began to move in the distance.

It took a minute for him to realize that something was going on. At first, he supposed the structure was a Ferris Wheel, but after taking a good, long look, he decided that that couldn't be true. Blinking hard to focus on the object, he was startled to see it suddenly disappear. Was he hallucinating?

He gritted his teeth as a wave of nausea came over him. Surely this was a childish worry, but what if TeleVytal wasn't the only boss in the city? Heart racing now, he dashed in the direction of the vanished figure.

Nothing could compare to the horror he felt when he finally reached his destination. Zyrite was a rather emotional person, and his feelings had become excessively strong several times in the past, but this adventure truly brought out the worst in him. He had cried, he had snarled, and now was the first time the color had legitimately drained from his face.

There they were. Two gigantic holes in the ground, seemingly formed by the tunneling of a large serpentine creature.

His worst fears were confirmed. He was tired, miserable, and honestly felt like losing it at the moment. And now, this was thrown at him? How bad could it get?

Obviously, much worse.

Of all the things he had expected the creature to do, returning through its own tunnel was not one of them. Which is why he almost flipped completely over when a gigantic mechanical worm burst out of one of the cavities. Preparing for a confrontation, he steeled himself... only to watch as it burrowed away once more.

Maybe it's as tired as I am, he mused.

Shaking his head, he sighed. He needed to get some sleep. Maybe while he rested, he could come up with a good apology for Reverie. It'd been wrong to snap at her like he did... but a hatred of those machines was something worth defending, right? Honestly, he didn't know anymore. Taking one last glance at the tunnels, he fled the scene.

Zyrite woke with a start. A nightmare! Calming his shaking form, he tried to remember what he had seen.

Eyes.

Three eyes! And a titanic metal form!

What could have warranted this dream? He had no clue. Did it mean something to him? Again, nothing. But as he racked his soul for answers, one word kept whispering itself in his mind.

Eschaton.

And the moment he grasped it, other words began revealing themselves to him.

Doomsday.

Dual Beam.

MegaWorm.

Mecha Electro.

Reaper.

...

This.

Is.

The.

End.

Zyrite began to tremble again. This time around, soothing himself was not an option.

Mecha Electro...  as in Electro? As in the Vyryn? If that was the case, then how did this relate to the other names?

While he had no answer to this question, he had the feeling he was in great, great danger.

The end of the Neon City isn't here yet... Perhaps in the next chapter...?
