Brick Ares flipped over in bed, anticipating the rush of water that usually greeted her in the morning. As if the glaring lights of Neon 11 weren't enough! She had spent 5 legitimate hours on an essay about the Humanoid Rebellion. And now her accursed sibling dared to wake her... It was a weekend, for HERO's sake!
Blocking out her male counterpart's vile visage, Brick gazed out the window. She gazed past the skyscrapers and past the stars, to the rifts beyond. Streaks of yellow, blue, red, and black. It was said that some of these ethereal energies possessed the power to change reality itself. It was also rumored that Cubics were powerful enough to interact with them. If only she could reach one! Blinking, Brick questioned why her thoughts had spiraled into such deep territory. Oh well. There was no time to be confused. She simply needed to begin a long day of relaxation!
Gazing at her brother's face, she wondered what he could possibly be thinking.

Zyrite Moth Ares was unusually gleeful that day. He was so ecstatic, in fact, that he had forgotten to uphold his promise to his sister. That being the solemn oath to prevent himself from dousing her in water. He winced as her deep blue eyes glared into his. As far as he knew, his sibling was a force to be reckoned with. She could turn mirth into anguish, day into merciless night. With a shiver, he imagined those eyes turning purple, then pink, then red. No, please. Simply... no.
Before he fled the room, Zyrite blew a quick raspberry at his female twin. After all, if he ran fast enough, he'd still have a chance of survival, and adrenaline to spare! "This is why I love you, brother of mine!" Brick called out in a mock-formal tone, "You were always the best pin-cushion!"
"You can't catch me, sister! " As Brick vaulted over the edge of her bed, Zyrite yelled, "I'm already gone!"
Grinning madly, he raced through the doors, out into the foyer, and out into the sun. Living close to the exit had its perks! Gazing at the skyscrapers of the city he called home, he sighed in content. He'd love this city, no matter what happened. Closing his eyes, he swore he'd never let it be overrun. Not like Neon 18...
Never.
Deep in reverential thought, he almost didn't notice Brick's facefalls nearing him. She slowed to a halt at his side. Leaning forward to look at his face, she smiled softly. "Appreciating the city, huh?" she whispered.
"Nobody can harm an inch of this place," Zyrite murmured, "I'll... I'll destroy them if they try." Snarling, he continued. "I'll shatter them into metal rubble. By HERO, if anyone tries... anything..."
"Shhh... Don't worry," Brick soothed. "They built the barriers, remember? Our city is fine, in fact, it's thriving!" Seconds after she said this, she gasped. Her brother was crying! "What's wrong, Zyrite?"
He glanced at her painfully. "I love this city. But..." he trailed off. "What if love isn't enough? What if... Xender takes it?"
Unfortunately, his sister wasn't listening to him. She was, instead, staring at an NC11 News monitor.
Breaking News: Electro Is Approaching! The Vyryn known as Electro is quickly taking hold of the mines surrounding our city! Entire acres are fading into yellow static as his hand descends upon us. Will our barriers survive such an assault? Electro seems to be operating out of Neon 18, where his... comrade... TeleVytal resides...
By the time Brick turned to observe her brother, he was already gone.
