Another mouthful of firewiskey burned its way down Sirius' throat while a cool breeze drifted through his hair. His fingers rubbed against the rough surface of the roof repeatedly until they were numb. After lighting a cigarette and staring at the sky dispassionately Sirius began running his fingers along the jagged edge of a broken roof tile, through the haze he dimly registered pain.
"You should probably stop that," said a voice next to him. Sirius shrugged but still did what he was told.
"Look they're bleeding! And you're shaking."
Sirius shrugged again. "S'cold," he mumbled into his drink. Remus raised an eyebrow but didn't comment. They sat saying nothing yet somehow saying everything until Sirius went to put his cigarette out on his palm.
"Don't." Remus snapped, snatching Sirius' hand away just in time. "Please," his voice was softer now, Remus traced patterns on Sirius' arm. " I love you. "
Sirius laughed humourlessly. "No you don't. You love the other me not this." He gestured to himself.
" I love you when you're happy and when you're not. When you jump on me in the morning and when you steal my chocolate. I love you always and forever. "
"Please don't try, it just makes me feel guilty."
Knowing his attempts were in vain Remus turned and hugged him, trying to convey all his love through a single hug. Sirius remained stiff as a board.
"It feels like I'm trapped in a glass dome with everything banging on the glass trying to get my attention. The glass is going to shatter soon, I can feel it. I'm scared." He whispered the last part as though he were scared to admit it.
"When the glass shatters I will there." Remus promised.
