Author’s note: Guys I’m sorry in advance for this chapter. Raine is going to be taking on a lot and will be going through a lot. I’m going to leave the chapter title out of this one and go straight into the chapter. In this chapter a portion of it will be bold italicized. That portion is Rufus dreaming.
Chapter 4: Brother vs. Brother
Raine ran into the great hall. A group of first years were surrounded by death eaters. Going to them he put the kids behind him. He held his wand tight and pointed to the death eaters.
“Get out of this school and away from my students!” Raine yelled.
The death eaters just laughed.
One smirked at him. “Or what? You’ll give us detention? Take points away?”
Raine glared at him. “Push me and find out.”
The death eaters began to fight him. He held them off as much as possible. These students needed to get to safety. He managed to knock most of the death eaters out.
“As good as always, brother.” Raine tensed up at that voice. ‘No. No no no.’ Desmond came out from behind other death eaters. A wide evil smirk across his face. “What’s wrong brother? You look so pale. Are you not glad to see me?”
“Desmond.” Raine’s wand lowered slightly.
“Rufus.” Desmond smirked. “Let’s talk shall we?”
Raine gulped. Desmond was different. Paler, thinner. He had a dark aurar about him. Before this when was the last time he’d seen his brother?
“6th year Rufus. That was when you last saw me. Before I left for a better life.” Desmond said.
“Better life? Look at yourself Desmond. This isn’t-“
“Me? Oh yes it is. I learned early in life who I was. Seems to me like you’re still trying to figure it out.” Desmond said.
Raine held his wand tightly. “I won’t do this Desmond. I won’t fight my own brother.”
“Oh you will.” Desmond smirked evilly. “You see if you don’t..” he pulled his wand out and cast a spell. The students behind Raine screamed as the walls shook and pieces of it crashed to the ground. “I will gladly take you all down at once.”
Raine glanced back at the students. He needed to get them to safety. It was his job. He gritted his teeth before looking back to his brother. “Fine but not here. This is between you and me Desmond. I will duel you, in the dueling club room.”
Desmond’s smirk grew. “Gladly.”
They went to the room after Raine got the students to safety. He took a deep breath. Was this the dumbest idea he’s ever had? Yep. Was he going to back down? Nope. He needed to do this.
“What’s wrong brother? Scared?” Desmond asked.
“Of you? Never. I always was a better dueler than you.” Raine said.
“Sassy as always. You can never just be serious.” Desmond said. Raine got onto the platform as Desmond did the same. They faced each other.
“Desmond you can still stop this. We don’t have to fight.” Raine tried to reason with him. Sure he knew it was useless but something in him couldn’t help it. Desmond was still his brother.
“Oh now you care huh? Where was that sentiment years ago huh? Where was it when were growing up? What was it you always called me? Ah yes, a brute. Care to find out just how much of a brute I can be?” Desmond growled at him. “Come on master duelist! You know the rules! You bow before a duel!”
Raine reluctantly bowed but kept his eyes on Desmond. He needed to keep his guard up. There was a darkness about Desmond he didn’t want to see. He stood straight and rose his wand.
Desmond gave no warning before he began on the offense. He smirked as he forced Raine into an immediate defense with a shield up. Raine held his shield up and guarded himself from the blows.
“What’s wrong brother!? Can’t you fight back!? Be a real man! Face me head on!” Desmond screamed “What would our parents think if they saw you like this!? That’s what you always wanted isn’t it? To be noticed by them!”
Raine’s jaw clenched as he struggled to keep the shield up against Desmond’s blows. His brother was strong. So much stronger than he used to be. If this kept up long his shield would give out. He needed an opening. Needed a moment he could get on the offense.
“Perhaps I’ll visit them next!” Desmond yelled. “After I take care of you of course.” He laughed.
Raine growled. “Desmond stop this!” Raine pleaded.
“Oh don’t worry I won’t end it so quickly.” Desmond smirked.
Raine’s shield cracked. This was it. He would lose his defence.
“Raine!” Arias’ voice rang through.
Raine looked towards him. “Arias?” He said just before a spiking pain shot through him. His eyes widened as he put a hand to his side.
“No!” Arias screamed. He began to run to him.
Raine looked down at his hand and found blood covering it. He coughed as he looked to his brother. Desmond laughed. He stumbled slightly. He rose his wand and pointed it at Desmond.
“Expeliarmus!” he disarmed Desmond.
Desmond smirked. “Good bye brother. Have a good death.” He disaperated.
Raine swayed. How did he do that? You can’t disapperate in hogwarts grounds. He shook the thought away. He held his side as he struggled to stay up.
Arias ran to him and caught him. “No Raine stay up. Hey look at me.” Arias said. “You need to stay awake. He put Raine’s arm over his shoulder and began to drag him out. “You’re going to be ok.”
Raine coughed as he stumbled along with Arias. “S-students..”
“They’re all safe. None are missing or harmed.” Arias said. “Just focus on staying up.”
Raine’s eyes drooped. He was getting weak quickly. He knew he was loosing a lot of blood.
Arias held Raine up as they stumbled to the infirmary. Raine’s blue vest was now purple from all the blood he lost. He winced as Arias helped him through the doors.
“Help! Nurse B help please! It’s Rufus!” Arias screamed. “Rufus its ok I got you. I got you.”
Raine panted as he held his side just under his ribs. His legs gave way and he collapsed to the ground. He struggled to breathe. “I…I’m…s-sorry.”
“Raine? Rufus. Rufus!” Arias screamed.
Raine watched as the world went black.
