Chapter 16: 'Pleads and Apologies'

Kira rushed back to their makeshift office, having spent a few more minutes in the panic room, heart pounding.

This was it, she had to be right.

She quickly entered the room, seeing Officers Sachhi and Crystal working hard on what seemed to be checking the finger prints.

Kira looked at the sets they'd taken from each suspect, including Jay and Leona just in case, along with what they had actually gotten off the glass.

"Did they match up with any of the six?" She asked, walking over to the two as they looked up at her.

"Were checking right now, don't worry." Crystal said, a look of concentration on her face.

It was only a few moments later when she looked at Kira.

"We have a match."

"It's him isn't it?" Kira asked frantically, Crystal taking a step back as her and Sachhi looked.

Kira sighed, a bit out of relief, and a bit because she knew what was next.

"Quick, notify the officers at the front, this case has been closed." Kira said solemnly, Sachhi quickly taking out her walkie-talkie and talking to one of the officers.

Back at the front of the mansion, everyone had been relatively silent, it seemed that the actual dread and danger of the situation had washed over them.

Then they heard a beep, everyone whipping around to see an officer by the front doors pull out his walkie-talkie, talking into it.

Everyone eyed each other a bit, nervously.

Then there were quick footsteps, and yelling.

Axel was grabbed by Officer Sachhi, and quickly held against the wall, pinning his arms behind his back as Officer Crystal pulled out her handcuffs.

"Axel McLean, youre under arrest for the murder of Zakou Rosales Mena, you have the right to remain silent." Kira said, watching closely as Officer Crystal handcuffed him tightly.

"What the hell! You're all crazy, I didn't kill him!" Axel yelled, grunting in pain slightly as his arms were uncomfortably held behind his back.

"Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law, I suggest staying quiet Mr. McLean." Kira said, narrowing her eyes as he was pulled back, tightly handcuffed.

Everyone else watched, Ari breathing frantically as Jay quietly tried to calm her down.

"A, hey, it's okay. It's all over now, no ones going to hurt you, I promise." Jay said, putting his hand on her shoulder as she nodded slowly, trying to even out her breathing.

Juno and Claire stood away from everyone else, Leona walking over to them.

"Told you I didn't kill him." Juno said, glancing at Claire as he crossed his arms, leaning back against the wall as she huffed.

"Doesn't change the fact that you're creepy and probably in with some illegal business. I'm just glad this is over now." Claire said, relieved as she leaned back next to Juno, watching Leona as she stood in front of them.

"You, scram, I need to talk to Juno here." She said, eyeing Claire who raised an eyebrow.

"Right, no. I don't care, someone is literally getting arrested for murder right now. Just watch the show quietly with the rest of us so we can get out of here faster."

Kira was seemingly talking to the other officers, Officers Sachhi and Crystal holding Axel in place, asking him a few questions as he seemingly stopped struggling, anger still blazing in his eyes.

"Trust me, this process will take a bit. They're gonna ask him a few questions here before taking him down to the station for his trial and such. Though I doubt it'll be much of a trial, he's obviously guilty." Leona said, smiling as she shook her head, flipping her long hair as she glanced back over to where Axel was.

"Why wouldn't they just take him down to the station now? They have their evidence apparently, and I want to leave." Claire said, glaring over at Leona who rolled her eyes.

"I'd watch our mouth Ms. Entitled, I already don't like you." Leona growled, to which Claire silently challenged, Juno sighing which annoyance.

"Girls calm the fuck down, and its because the cops here in this town suck. Like I told you and Ari earlier, most of them have no idea what they're doing, so those three have to handle everything on their own. That's why things take forever to get down around here." Juno explained, pointing at Kira, Sachhi, and Crystal as he spoke, Leona agreeing with a nod.

"Claire, could you come here?" Kira called out, the three of them looking over to her, Leona smirking over at Claire.

"Guess that's your cue to leave." She said as Claire sent her an icy glare, Leona merely shrugged and watched her intensely as she huffed and walked away angrily.

Kira pulled at the sleeves of her jacket, fidgeting slightly as she watched a seemingly angry Claire approach.

"Yes, detective?" She scowled, crossing her arms and tapping her foot somewhere impatiently.

"I'm sorry." Kira said, taking in a deep breath as she watched Claire's facade fall.

"Huh? What why?" Claire asked, arms dropping to her side as she looked at Kira with question.

"Just for everything. Ever since you moved here, I know we've always stayed in contact but..." Kira trailed off, trying to figure out what she wanted to say.

"I know this isn't the time or place, but Claire I've never lost feelings for you." Kira finally admitted, feeling a heavy weight fall off her shoulders, glancing back to Officers Sachhi and Crystal to make sure they still had everything covered with Axel.

Claire thought for a moment, then glaring at the detective.

"You're right, this isn't the time and place. And honestly Kira? I lost feelings like a week after I moved here. You're a good friend, but honestly, you're too boring for me."

And with that, Kira shut down her emotions.

She cleared her throat, looking down at Claire.

"Right, I don't know what I was thinking." She said, Claire rolling her eyes and walking away as Sachhi ran over to Kira.

"Detective Kira, I think you wanna hear this."
